Update: Pre-Picnic Dog Park Meetup canceled! See below for more details. The picnic is still on for humans!

Are you tired of the summer time cookouts that you can’t partake in? Please join the Greensboro Vegan Meetup Group for a grill out, picnic lunch at Shelter #4 in Country Park on June 30, 2012 at 12:00. This will be a cookout that you can enjoy!

Here is a link to a map of Country Park’s shelters.

This is a potluck picnic, so please bring a dish to share. There will be veggie burgers and dogs on the grill, so we’ll need sides and desserts to enjoy. Here are some ideas: potato salad, macaroni salad, cookies, beans, fresh salads, etc. If you need more ideas for recipes, please look at these websites for some ideas: Veg WebVegNews, and Meet the Shannons.

It's going to be really hot on Saturday, so make sure you drink lots of water and dress to stay cool. The picnic shelter is shaded nicely by trees, so we should be protected from a lot of the heat.

Optional Pre-Potluck Dog Park Meetup CANCELED:

It's going to be over 100 degrees on Saturday, so we are canceling the pre-potluck dog park meet up. We don't want any doggies getting sick after all the excitement of the park. The regular potluck is still going on though, so all humans come and keep hydrated and cool.

Under the trees and under the shelter, it was tolerable for a NC high-summer day. Home-made vegan sausages?!?! Crazy good! We all had a great time and it was a pleasure meeting everyone.

I had a great time even though it was over 100 degrees! The food was delicious and the company was great. Much thanks to Toni and Steven, who came up with the idea and organized it!

I know you can't drive to the shelter and it seems like a long walk to get there.

We're here and it's actually not to bad under the pavilion. Plus we have a bunch of food including burgers, brownies and sausage & peppers! Come on out.

I totally understand, Charlene! It will be a hot day for sure. If it helps any, the shelter and the dog park are shaded by trees, so that should help keep some of the heat away.

I would like to come and bring my little poodle, but I can't take the 90 to 100 temps.

Thanks Heather, I will do that. They will really enjoy being there.

Linda, the pups are welcome at the picnic. Feel free to bring them and leash them at the shelter, which is right beside the dog park. They'll probably be pretty tired afterward. You definitely don't want to leave them in the car, as it will probably be really hot that day.

I have 5 dogs and they are good at the dog park. I am coming from Moore County. What do I do with them at the picnic. I can leave them in the car if it is cool or bring some stakes. They all love vegan food. My lab loves kale salad and hempseed. Linda

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
