Hi Vicky
Didn't mean to cause offence on the marketing thing.... was just my first impression.
I like what you are saying - sounds good, please come along if you can tonight - or come to any of our meetups.

Hi Steve,

That sounds great.  I will try and get there tonight depending on if I can reschedule a meeting.

Actually, our group is made up of business owners, not necessarily marketers.

The reason for the meetup is to get business owners together as part of the Shared Economy Concept.  It works like this:

I educate business owners that the way to get clients is by getting their names out there and build up their business through networking.  So if your group members own businesses, it is a platform for them to generate clients.  It's about proactively bringing clients to your door.  One of the latest and successful ways of generating business today is in through building relationships.  Then people have confidence and trust in you, and then they become paying clients.  It's a process - it's not so easy just to blast things in people's faces and expect them to part with their money or hire your services - they need a reason to be loyal to you or choose you over your competition.  Another thing is this: if you are a computer repairer and someone in the business network needs the services of a computer repairer or knows of someone who needs this, they are more likely to hire or recommend you because they know you, so they don't have to risk using unknowns off say, Yellow Pages.  And in turn, if the computer repairer needs an accountant, the same applies... that is what business networking is all about.

A lot of people get offended by business owners who are out there proactively promoting themselves or their businesses because they themselves are not accustomed to asking for business, especially here in Australia.  So their belief systems are getting in the way of their business growth. They think they need to sidestep this 'uncomfortable' or 'not the done thing' self promoting by getting a marketing company to do the asking; ie. advertising.  This is fine too, of course, but people are more savvy nowadays, and are not fooled by gimmicks, so that's why the latest method is to get personal and build relationships first; THEN ask for the business. Word of mouth is the most powerful marketing, and so is relationship building.  You may have noticed that banks and lenders advertise by promoting the bank manager or consultant, with the bank manager/consultant personally promoting him/herself first and foremost.  Then who they work for is secondary.  This exactly why they are doing it - people join you because of you, not your business.  It's Personal.

So, that's the what my meetup is about in a nutshell :)  -  There; you now have knowledge of the most powerful marketing tool worth millions to any business owner I've just disclosed to you for free :) Best of luck with it - I am an advocate of shared abundance - there's abundance out there for everyone - enough to go around so sharing it just makes sense :)

I have just sent a text to my friend, so will let you know about the Molendinar space hunting when I get a reply.

Cheers and see you soon,

Vicky :)

Feel free to invite techspace members on this mailing list if you like...  maybe write up a paragraph about what you are trying to do in our kind of language. Bear in mind we are mostly techies and not marketing people (which sounds a bit like what your group is about).

We should probably market ourselves better (we are generally atrociously bad at this!) - but just so you know there is a divide to cross there and *some* geeks put off by sales talk.

Maybe come along to our open evening this evening as a starter to meet us?

Please get in touch with your friend in Molendinar - sounds good... certainly the right kind of  location for us.

Hi Steve,

I am running a monthly meetup thus:

http://www.meetup.com/GoldCoastActiveBusinessBuilders/events/70472272/

We are using the Swingin' Safari for our meetups - I know the owner, Neil.

I was wondering if you would like to combine our groups once a month, as we can help our members build their businesses as well as expand everyone's network - I feel it is good to combine meetups, as it benefits everyone.  Neil and I are in talks regarding shared economy concepts, etc for local business owners here on the coast.

I can introduce you to Neil and you may be able to make an arrangement.

As for a permanent place for your business,  I can ask a good friend who has a factory at Molendinar, and also another friend who owns office space in Southport.

Looking forward to your thoughts.

Vicky _ feel free to call me: [masked]

Hi All

We're on the lookout for a new location for Gold Coast Tech Space. Our lease expires in October which would then give us the opportunity to leave if we can find something better.

Our main requirements are:

- Something a bit cheaper (or even free if we can get it! similar to what hsbne have)
- Something that doesn't leak! (current space leaks if you haven't noticed - no action from landlord despite several requests)
- true 24x7 access (no locked gate on weekends)
- Ability to get internet - ADSL2 or better
- Access to a toilet

There are a few nice to haves such as kitchen and an air-conditionable section, but the above are the essentials. We're trying for something around Southport/Ashmore area again if we can, as we like the central location.

I put an advert on gumtree a while back - http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/southport/office-space-commercial/new-home-for-gold-coast-techspace/1003841927 - feel free to pass on to anyone you know.

Have been talking to the HSBNE guys about what they did with ULDA (Urban Land Development Association) - unfortunately we have no sites like this on the Gold Coast, but if you know any developers sitting on land or old buildings - now might be the time to have a chat to them.

Thanks for your help.
Steve
