I managed to finish off one of the reprap hotends at the techspace today in a spare hour I had after the IBM EXITE camp at Griffith.
The build was something unlike anything I've ever done before (had to do a bit of messing with thermal cement and all sorts). Anyway - just wanted to say that the job was pretty easy as I had some nice equipment around me. I think Gavin donated the power supplies and I was able to heat up power resistor to test it out and dry the cement - was also able to use one of the multimeters to test my thermistor before embedding it in a block of thermal cement (was a bit worried I had damaged it as they are very fragile).
Anyway - just wanted to say thanks to the people that provided that equipment - helped me out having stuff to hand.
Our next task - throw out some of those old tools that are hanging around and get some decent wire cutters and strippers.... the ones in the space are not very nice and are better just out the way of the electronics area and not used for this purpose. I might try and get some of my old favourite types when I get the chance.... like those small little tin snips you can get - fit nicely in the hand and very easy to work with.
