Re: [gctechspace] Fwd: monthly 3D printing interest group

Other priorities were Door, Internet and setup of space. Then we can come back to the printers.
Only so much time in the day, for all of us.

3D Printing hitting mainstream on the Goldie now.

We should really get our other 2 printers finished - anyone up for a final push? It's such a waste them just sitting there....

Hi Steve

Do you could share this information with Gold Coast friends?

Best regards

3D Printing Interest group talk forum.

"New Materiality: digital hard plasticity project” will launch a monthly
3D printing interest group.  Meeting will be on the first Thursday of each
month at 6:30pm at PaperLightBoxStudio, within Rabbit+Cocoon as part of
the precincts upLATE program. The opening demonstration and discussion
will be Thursday 6 December.

The first invited speaker is Daniel Flood, Who will bring a 3D Printer to
run a demonstration and present the state's first 3D printing lab to be
established at The Edge, in the State Library of Queensland. The
presentation will precede an open conversation.

In the spirit of the Edge’s 3D printing Lab, and in collaboration with
Gold Coast Techspace, education and industrial institutions, The New
Materiality project aims to set up a 3D Printing Hub at Miami’s
Rabbit+Cocoon Arts Precinct.

3D Printing is part of the extended Digital Direct Manufacturing (DDM),
more specifically of the additive manufacturing technology and has begun
to deeply transform all industries and will especially impact near future
manufacturing processes and working relations. In the context of the
global digital economy, the New Materiality project instigates a local
open discussion by asking the community, what is there for us? The project
strives to work locally with the cities makers and thinkers to own and
understand our future interaction with the technology.

Anyone with an interest or intrigue in 3D Print technology is invited to
attend the 6:30pm talk forum Thursday 6 December at studio 3, Paper Light
Box Studios Rabbit+Cocoon 23 Hillcrest Pde, Miami Gold Coast.  Please RSVP
by email at:  [address removed]

The 3D Printing Hub @ R+C will provide a social resource for the creative
community to explore, experiment and play with this technology.  The
Vision of the “New Materiality project” is to help build community
capacity to prepare the artisans to understand, work and create with the
tools that will inevitably shape the 21st century.  The question to be
asked is, unlike many technologies misunderstood from the last Industrial
Revolution, can we understand how to harness the potentiality of 3d
printing technologies to assist in creating sustainable communities in
local hubs?

Jorge Cantellano has previously worked within the Gold Coast and Brisbane
marine industry, supporting boat-builders with computer generated 3D
visualisation and CAD/CAM. Jorge is the initiator and committed
coordinator of the “New Materiality: Digital Hard Plasticity Project” with
a mission to establish a 3D Printing community hub on the Gold Coast.
This is a platform of practical and philosophical understanding of the
technology and explores avenues for social enterprise, community and
cultural development ventures.

If you are inspired to work creatively with the new additive manufacturing
technology you could submit your expression of interest to be a partisan
of the creative experimental artisan group working with 3DPrinting
technology. Please submit your interest by email to:

“We are the people who already work with digital 3D modelling,
visualisation, CAD/CAM, CAD/DDM/ and we create forms using the computer to
mediate fabrication. We already are, like it or not, contributing to a CAD
formed future. Let’s exercise our capacity to use the technology to create
better communities by transferring our knowledge to grass roots
fabricators. Let’s empower the community to make decisions about where,
and why the technology can create a better future in their localities.”
