All,

Site launch is imminent.  We are just working out a few, persistent bugs and additional features.  Until then, here is another opportunity that you may want to take advantage of.  Rachel of Startup Riotasked us to pass this along to you.  She will be available to discuss this event and other opportunities in our new discussion group dedicated to Startup Riot or you can contact her directly,  [address removed].

From Rachel:

Startup Riot SHOW in Atlanta. We are looking for awesome tech/web startups to present/pitch Feb 22nd and want to pull candidates from all over the US, not just the Atl area. We have a travel fund for those who are chosen to present to help them get down here - money should NOT be an issue in whether or not people choose to apply. We are expecting 500+ attendees, so lots of visibility, investors, VCs, and networking. All info about how to apply and details of SHOW is on our website at www.startupriot.com

Startup Riot (SR) was founded in 2005 as a means of giving back to the startup community that had supported its founder, Sanjay Parekh, during his first startup venture with Digital Envoy. It is about helping entrepreneurs learn, grow, connect with each other, and ultimately succeed.

Startup Riot SHOW is the longest running of the SR projects, coming up on 5 years in February. During this event, 30 selected entrepreneurs are given 3 min and 4 slides to pitch their idea/product to a panel of judges and an audience of investors, VCs, fellow entrepreneurs, and supportive community members. A "winner" is chosen and receives $10,000 in convertible debt, in addition to an entire day of one-on-one meetings with potential investors. Presenting companies must be technology/internet based and less than 5 years old, but can be from any geographic location worldwide and at any level of need.
Because we strongly believe in creating opportunities for early stage startups, there is a travel fund provided by sponsors that helps alleviate the cost of travel for presenting startups. We want to keep costs affordable for everyone and maintain an event that is easily accessible for our target audience. To present at SHOW is free, to attend as an entrepreneur or supportive community member is $30 and as an investor $70.
Additionally, SR screens out and denies entrance to SHOW to service providers. When you are there trying to make connections and network, you don't need/want lawyers and accountants waving their cards at you - and we don't want that either.

Last year, SR expanded its scope and began the career fair, JOIN, specifically for startup companies. It can be difficult to attract talent when you are up against mega-corporations, and JOIN addresses that issue. Additionally, job seekers are screened to provide a small yet highly qualified pool of applicants based on the needs of the participating companies. This is not a meat-market - just a high quality networking event. In the past, 60% of participating startups extended offers to folks they met at JOIN.

The newest SR project is MAKE, a hackathon that will take place the weekend before SHOW in February. Teams of up to 4 members (developers and designers only) come prepared with an idea and spend the weekend hacking and creating their product. On the 4th day, they present, and the winner will continue on to pitch at SHOW 2 days later.
Startup Riot is growing and expanding to create opportunities for startups all over the country. Annual SHOW events (coupled with JOIN and now MAKE) happen in Atlanta and Seattle, and this summer we will be moving into Europe. One off JOIN events are also being planned in various cities across the country.

If you are interested in knowing when/where SR events are being planned, sign up for our mailing list Startup Riot Mail and we will keep you in the loop.
