Google Glass Design Principles

Jenny Murphy has been working on the Google Glass developer platform for a year and a half. It's been a wild ride. In this talk, she will tell you some stories about the challenges faced along the way. These stories will give you insight into how the APIs and design guidelines came to be. Believe it or not, there's more to it than pictures of kittens and puppies.

P.S: If you are interested in presenting a lightning talk about your Glass Project, please email one of the GDGSV organizers on meetup.

It was, but the audio isn't too good at the moment. I'm working on it and it should be posted this weekend!

I think there are many topics of presentation on which to meditate but I want to point out just three:
1 – The illustrated design methodology has a very extensive use of the prototype that is not integrated with a requirement management process. The approach is: "let's see if it works"
2 - The lack of clear requirements frustrates some basic points of the axioms described in the methodology of design: if I do not have clear requirements I have no idea whether the application is sufficient to meet the user experience needs or the software is able to understand the possible exceptions of a real world.
3 - The phase of verification is absorbed into the never ending process of prototyping and the programmer can never guarantee if the software is without defects : lack of criteria for closure of the process. Because the most important thing in design is to ensure the creativity, the creative will drown in a sea of bugs wasting efforts and budget.

Jenny Murphy is an outstanding speaker. I learned the Google Glass Design Principles and appreciated her Q & A section as well. I hope she will present again for this Meetup in the future.

Is there any way to tell where you are on the waitlist, and whether or not I should come wait at the door and keep my fingers crossed?

    June 4, 2014

  • Tom W.

If you can't make it tonight, we will be recording the talk and will put it on our youtube channel when it's ready.

Sadly I didn't know that I was going to be able to join in until just now. I do not have childcare lined up at this point. I hope someone is recording this so it can viewed later.

Hello I'm waitlisted for June 4. When would you inform me whether there's space available for me to attend or not? Thanks.

    June 2, 2014

    • Nick M.

The way meetup works is if someone cancels it will immediately confirm the first person on the wait list.

When you have so much interest in a particular meet up.
It would be great if you guys could videotape the event and post the link here.
You could also do a live interactive video feed on Livestream.
    That would be cool!

Is this topic focused on the design of the hardware/specs of Glass? or the platform/apps-ecosystem surrounding the Glass? Meaning is GLASSWARE included in this discussion or story-telling session?

    May 22, 2014

    • Jen T.

Yup! You're right Nick. It's a presentation that focuses on the why of the design of Glass.
