December GDG Sydney - Google App Engine - What's New

Following on from our popular October event on Cloud technologies is a talk on Google App Engine.

Speaker - Amy Unruh (Google)

Google App Engine is a cloud development platform that makes it easy to write robust web applications, simple to scale them to a global audience, and straightforward to manage them over time.

This talk will give an overview of App Engine, with a focus on some of its newer features, such as Full-Text Search; the Sockets API, which provides outbound socket support (currently in the Trusted Tester phase); Cloud Endpoints, which supports APIs for mobile and web backends (also in Trusted Tester); and traffic splitting, which enables easy A/B testing. The talk will include a look at some code, and a demonstration of some of these features.

Speaker Bio: Amy Unruh is a Developer Programs Engineer at Google, working with App Engine. She has an academic background, and has also worked at several startups, worked in industrial R&D, done technical training and course development, and has published a book with Packt Publishing on "Google App Engine Java and GWT Application Development".

Hopefully I'll get to find out how to implement startDate < ? && endDate > ? datastore logic to enable me to find records for a given date window.
