Even if you’re the type of person who wouldn’t normally consider shoving your face into a basin of cold water to bob for tomatoes, by the time it’s July in Columbia you will likely think otherwise. A great local festival that offers tomatoes in all of their possible incarnations, along with bands, other food vendors and more. Held at City Roots in Rosewood.
Presented by Sustainable Midlands, the Palmetto Tasty Tomato Festival is a celebration of locally grown food – the people who grow it, the restaurants who place it on their menus, the markets that sell it, and the people who eat it!Continuing its traditions of old-time festival fun, Tasty Tomato’s programming includes a free heirloom tomato tasting, live music, local food and drink vendors, tomato bobbing, and the highly anticipated Tasty Tomato Contest!Returning as well this year is the Tasty Tomato Restaurant Feast, a collaboration with local restaurants that will offer special dishes on their menus made with Midlands Grown ingredients the week before the festival, from July 11-18, 2014. Festival food will also feature local food with a tomato theme!Sustainable Midlands, a champion of the region’s sustainable food efforts and festival founder, is producing this celebration of the tomato season. The festival will be held at City Roots Urban Farm.
