Food and/or Beer Tour

  • Idea #1: I can set up a tour of the RJ Rocker's brewery in Spartanburg, SC. It's not a long tour but very informative on how a small brewery operates and hand crafts beer. They charge $5.00 for the tour which also get you a 16 oz. Rocker's glass and four bottle caps you can trade for generous samples. We can also sit outside on the balcony that faces main street and enjoy the sunshine. #2: Everyone purchases a charcoal or gas grill (disposable) which cannot cost more than $10 and competes to produce the best tasting grilled item of the cooks choosing. We could also compete with "Horse-D-Vors" before the main course is served. A public park or someone generously donating their backyard would be required. I know we have some foodies who can also cook as good as they eat!

#1 sounds like fun, as well as #2.

As the weather is getting warmer, I can donate my yard for a grill competition. BYOB and chair. I'll also volunteer to be a judge. LoL. I can provide plates, cups, napkins, and forks. Depending on the number of guests, carpooling would be ideal, since I live in a cul-de-sac. Let me know if anyone is interested so we can set a date and time.

I'd say my back yard would be awesome except I'm in Greenville and I sure as hell know how to cook

A friend of mine recommended this tour group . It is a little expansive, but he said that is worth it!

My understanding of the cruise is rather small groups and it costs something like $50 per.

I "volunteer", (work for beer) at RJ Rockers and can get a Special tour set up for the group, next door is Cribbs Kitchen, a great eatery and I could possibly arrange to go there before or after a special tour.

Regular Taste a Tour at the brewery is every Thursday from 5 - 7 PM

I hear you Benjamin. I tired as you can see above to rally something into action with the RJ Rockers brewery tour, it sat out there for the longest time, but I got no response. Asheville is a cool place to visit. I just came back from a log cabin retreat last weekend and sampled the local brews... Fred.

Okay, someone has to take the lead and make this particular meetup happen, it's been hanging out there a long enough time. One of my life's passions is cooking and I'll like to meet some of you follow Good Eats n Meets foodies. I'll contact the owners of this bar/micro brewery in Spartanburg and make arrangements for a group of 15 people to attend a tour. I'll let you know what I come up with. Regards, Fred. 8^ )

The tours are every Thursday on the half hour between 5 and 7 and no reservations are required unless Richard was going to set up something special for us? Let's pick a date!

Like the idea of touring RJ Rockers

Richard, I like the concept of the mobile cooking station. I enjoy watching Jamie Oliver, Andreas Viestad and Claus Meyer with their mobile cooking stations, set up and cooking al fresco with their travel destination as the location backdrop - good eats 'n' locals...

#1 is a good idea to me as I've yet to attend a Good Eats 'n' Meets meetup and would like to meet some of my fellow foodies. # 2 is a good idea as well and with a forecasted sunny/warm day at this time of year - you know what the weather is like in South Carolina at certain times of the year; in the 70s one day and in the 30s the next - would make for a fun cook off. #1 sounds good to me. Just need a date and time and I'll see you all there. Kind Regards, Fred 8^ )

I live in STBG and even buy the RJR beer at the grocery store, but I've never toured the brewery. Sounds like a great idea, and I'll try my best to make it once we know the date.

Either of these sounds like a blast!

We've done an RJ Rockers tour and would absolutely do it again.

We could also just do a get-together where everyone brings something that they've already made? Would cut down on having to buy grills :)
