Celebrate Diversity! Ages 10+

Hello friends!

We are pleased to announce a new location for gee! classes.  In addition to Long Beach, we will be offering a new class in the South Bay!

Class Title: Celebrate Diversity! Finding Our Families, Finding Ourselves

Ages: 10+ years

Mondays, 10:30am-Noon

4 sessions: 3/5, 3/12, 3/19 & 3/26/12

Cost: $40/student

Location: South Bay Unity Spiritual Center, 2545 W. 237th St., #A, Torrance 90505 (behind Hoff's Hut, off of Crenshaw)

Minimum number of students: 5

Instructor: Ms. Nona Hall-Sandoval

Sky Mountain vendor: George A. Castro, gee!

Join us as students have the opportunity to explore enriching facets of diversity through self-exploration and exposure to the family heritage of peers.  Using curriculum published by the Museum of Tolerance, students will complete a Family Tree Activity, a Cultural Research Activity, and a Family Quilt Activity.  Students and families will be encouraged to participate in a field trip following the course to the Simon Wisenthal Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles.  These lessons are aligned to the California Content Standards for English-Language Arts and History-Social Science, grades 3-12.

Ms. Nona Hall-Sandoval has a Master's Degree in Psychology and currently working toward her Psy.D in Organizational Psychology.  She has worked in social services for close to 15 years as a social worker, counselor, and non-profit director in a variety of multi-ethnic, diverse communities throughout California.  She has taught Cultural Diversity, among other courses at the University of Phoenix for 3 years.  Nona homeschools her 3 children and has a passion for empowering children to be the next generation of healthy leaders.

This is a drop off class, but there is a space where parents and siblings may read/do studies in another room.  There is also a "playroom" for children under 4.

To sign up one child, RSVP as yourself, to sign up two children, RSVP +1, etc.

If you are not using Sky Mountain funds, please RSVP and bring payment to the first day of class.  If you prefer, you can make an online payment to [masked].

Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thank you!
