Hi Geeks,

We would like to meetup with you on November 26. The topic is "Building apps with HTML, CSS & JS". We will have talks that demonstrate how to build apps (mobile + web) with pure HTML, CSS & JavaScript. This time the speakers are Michael Neuhaus, and Jan Lehnardt.

Michael Neuhaus: Michael is a senior developer and team lead at Fashion For Home. At his daily work he's improving the web shop, using JavaScript and PHP. Intrigued by the rise of JavaScript in the last years, he has a strong interest in this field. He will give you an introduction to Firefox OS and show another reason why it's an good idea to deal with JavaScript.

Jan Lehnardt: Jan is an Open Source developer who works on all parts of the Web stack. He is the project lead of the synchronising database Apache CouchDB and co-inventor of Hoodie, a javascript framework and infrastructure brings full-stack app development to frontend programmers and web designers. Jan will introduce "Hoodie" and explain the principles behind it.

Doors are at 7pm. We will start at 7:45pm sharp.

We look forward to seeing you there :)

We still need a location for this event. We expect round about 40 attendees. Currently waiting for response from SoundCloud. But it would be nice to have some alternatives.

Ok. At my former employer I was involved in two projects which could be interesting to a broader audience.

    * We migrated to another data center and used that opportunity to restructure everything regarding our live servers. We built a private cloud with virtualization, configuration management and basically complete lifecycle management for all instances, everything based on open source tools. I would show how the old setup looked like, what we wanted to achieve and with what technologies/projects we realized it.

Not sure if that is to similar to our first Geek2Geek. What is your development stack?

There is a new MeetUp in Berlin coming up. The Node.JS MeetUp Berlin: http://www.meetup.com/Node-js-Meetup-Berlin/events/150556832/

If you wanna learn more about JavaScript on the server side you should give it a try! I will be there as well!

I visited the first meetup of the group and missed the following gatherings. Did the format change in any way? How long should a presentation be?

    November 7, 2013

    • Robert R.

format is still the same. Talks should be around 30 min + 5 min QA.

(2nd post because of 1000 char limit ...)
    * The second topic I could talk about is SOA. We had some big monolithic pieces of software (ERP, shop, whitelabel solution) and it became harder and harder to maintain them. We wanted to refactor the codebase step by step and have a structure/architecture on which we could build future projects. The result was a service oriented architecture. I would talk about the main design decisions of the architecture and what the advantages/disadvantages are. No deep dive into code, it would be language agnostic.

If one of the topics is interesting enough, let me know and I prepare something. :-)

Hi Mike, the format is still the same. A talk should be between 20 and 30 minutes long + 5 minutes for questions.
