N.E.R.F. vs Zombies

Nerds Equipped with Radical Firepower vs Zombies!

We can meet at the left side of the park over by the picnic benches next to the big baseball diamond if that works for folks. We have some extra weapons we can loan out and everyone is free to bring their own Nerf gear as well. Zombie dress is encouraged but not required.

Highly suggested to bring lots of water and maybe even something to eat.

Suggested Rules of Play:

Goal:  Survivor team must collect the resource flag and make it to the safe house with at least one member uninfected / Zombie team must tag all survivors before they win.  After one team wins teams re-assemble, ammo is cleaned up, and another round beings. If the group size is large enough, we have a "Cure" flag that converts the zombies into survivors.

Survivor Team will have fewer members than the zombie team (if 9 then 3 players) and ammo will be limited to 10 to 15 darts to start / no reloads unless you reach specified ammo caches around the field. Survivors, and zombies, will be walking during the event, and NOT running.

Any player tagged by a zombie must stop and count to 25 / after 25 seconds they turn and can no longer help the survivor team. They may continue shooting or leave their gun for a teammate to pick up.

Once shot, ammo stays on the ground until cleanup at the end of the round.

Guns: We have two types of guns we can loan: shotgun (Nerf Barrel Blaster) and SMG (Nerf Marauder). If a zombie is hit from an SMG, they must stop and count to 10 seconds. If they are hut from a shotgun, they must stop and count to 20 seconds. This is a reloading balance factor for these two weapons.

Any player caught shooting zombies in the head will be ejected for stereotypical movie behavior / unethical play.

Zombie Team will have the majority of members (if 9 then 6 players)  and will GENTLY tag survivors to turn them.

If hit on any body part with a dart a zombie must stop and count to 10 before moving again. Zombies are responsible for picking up ammo during their freeze.

Zombies may not speak to each other / over-intelligent grunts & groans may disqualify your corpse

Any player caught eating brains will be ejected for stereotypical undead behavior / unethical play.

*DISCLAIMER*: Organizers are poor folks who are not liable for injuries, brains, or lost ammunition. Players not playing safely and with good sportsmanship will be ejected from the game.  Bring goggles or other eye protection and never aim for the head - no matter what zombies are only frozen for 10 seconds.  Remember zombies were people too!

*Remember - cap of 15 darts per player regardless of gun. If you use rapid fire weapons you may want to reconsider or borrow a slower gun to save ammo.

NO MODDED WEAPONS! (Sorry technomancers)

Interesting--I had never played something like that before.

I just noticed after everyone else had already left that I still had 6 Nerf darts in one of my pockets--5 blue and one yellow with a suction cup. Whose are these?

I think those are Trevor's / you're obligated to come to the next one now and turn them in :)

      1 · January 11, 2014

    • Trevor

Indeed, just bring them with you next time.

      January 13, 2014

    Quite fun and delightful.

I stole 4 of your darts. Can't have ammo getting into the hands of the wrong humans now can we?

      January 11, 2014

    • Trevor

lol no problem I'll get them back eventually

      January 13, 2014

  • Andrew

Thanks for coming everyone! We should have the next nerf war in February.

So far it's a bit misty this morning but I don't think we'll get weather severe enough to rain us out. Jean and I will be there with our shotguns / hopefully everyone else can make it too

I'll be heading over shortly, I'm bringing my Barrel Blaster, Roughcut 2x4, and 45 darts.

      January 11, 2014

    • Trevor

My guns and darts will of course be available for any of the survivors who want to use them. The Roughcut is especially fun. :-)

Hey, Do we have a plan B if we get rained out tomorrow? The current weather reports are calling for showers tomorrow afternoon in San Rafael.

    1 · January 10, 2014

    • Andrew

If it's a moderate to strong rain, we will postpone again. If it's a drizzle, I doubt it will affect much. Really depends on the field terrain (muddy or not)

Yup. Cause plastic doesn't rust. Or everyone could bring their storm gear :D

Okay / we've rescheduled for a Saturday in Jan after the holidays. If anyone still wants to meet up for board games we can host at our new place in Petaluma / text or call[masked] for the address and we can start between 12 or 2 if folks need more time. Sorry for the late changes everyone! But zombies is more fun with a proper horde.

If we're at 5 people so close to the weekend, will we reach critical mass? I feel like I'd rather go to a rescheduled nerf battle when more people can attend.

    November 21, 2013

    • Trevor

I'm good with rescheduling, as long as it's on a weekend I'm in. :-)

      November 24, 2013

    • Andrew

We're rescheduling it for January 11 (Sat). Let us know if anyone has a schedule conflict and we'll work it out

      November 24, 2013

  • Andrew

I don't think we'll have enough for decent teams (1 H vs 3 Z). We can reschedule tomorrow for board games, but the location would be in Petaluma.

    November 23, 2013

    • Jory

I'm *game* for that. :-) I can bring Carcassonne with me.

but it's also a bit late to change it.

      November 18, 2013

Hey, I just joined this group and since this is the first N.E.R.F VS Zombies (or any kind of Nerf battle) I've gone to I'll volunteer for Zombification. Oh and I have a couple Nerf guns I'll bring along for any one who would like to use them.

    1 · November 15, 2013

Zombie or Survivor doesn't matter much, Everyone will probably get their own turn.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
