Designer Sessions

Join us for our inaugural meeting, where we will discuss the format and scheduling. The" Designers Sessions" series of events will revolve around game designers of all stripes coming together. We will discuss our experiences and difficulties of developing the systems, mechanics and lore of our hobby. We will debate the pros and cons of game systems, and assist each other with problems in the games we are currently (or hoping to be) working on. We will also play test games that designers are currently working on, or just play games that we really enjoy. This first session will be an opportunity to influence how these sessions develop.

This looks to be a very promising group.

I'm having dinner with a local gaming celebrity before the meeting on Tuesday, going to try to bring him along, sounds like he's up for it. He definitely has some game design experience.

Should make the inaugural meeting a little more memorable, if he is able to attend.

Very cool. Did you both make it to the meeting?

Yep, both of us made it...Dave wants me to help keep him in the loop for future meetings, so I'm thinking he'll be returning, probably to the next one...but definitely to another one of these in the future if the next one doesn't fit his schedule.

I am very interested in the Designer Sessions series, but I can't make it to this first event and Tuesday's in general are difficult for me. How often will this group be meeting? There's a chance I may be able to adjust my schedule so that I can make future meetings.

Currently, they are going to be scheduled once a month. If we begin to gather a large number of designers, or it is deemed by the group that there is enough interest in increasing the schedule we may change to bi-weekly at some point in the future. I will be scheduling these for the Tuesday before the first Saturday of the month. I know that seems like a weird schedule, but it allows for attendees to easily schedule additional play-testing, as we are going to have a limited time frame (2 hours or less) for testing/feedback at the sessions.

It was great to see a bunch of fellow game designers, and just chat about ideas and issues that others have had. I look forward to future meetings and electronic exchanges.

Wish I could make it. This week is IGDA, as well as Cocoaheads.

Being this is the first one, I wanted to get people together, and get a feel for what people would like to see from this, in terms of the format. Also I wanted to determine what schedule people would like to see for this, in terms of how often. I have some ideas on the agenda, but I'd like to get ideas from other people as well.
