Game Designer Sessions

Have an idea for a game?  Enjoy tinkering with rules, graphic design, or game theory?  Maybe you're just looking for someone to bounce ideas off before you commit yourself?

This meetup series is for game designers of all types and experience levels, from those employed in the industry to enthusiastic hobbyists.  Each meeting will include time for play-testing and providing feedback on participant works-in-progress.

Discussion topics, speakers, and other special events will be noted on specific sessions.

If you're bringing something to play-test, please post a comment; tell us a bit about it, what makes it cool or unique, and what you're hoping to learn from the testing.  "Is this worth developing?" is a perfectly valid testing question.

Have an idea for a discussion or special event?  Post it to the Thoughts for 2014 discussion thread in the Designer Round Table.

Read an interesting article on Commodity Game Design http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/... Which sums up my resistance to releasing my games under the print & play model. I would love to spend a little time discussing this at the next meeting.

Don't forget "Print and Play" is different from "Free Print and Play".

I have some questions, about what is referenced at the end of the article regarding skill transferability and game protection that I'd like to bounce around.

I am working (slowly) on an HTML5 platformer about existential dread and depression. I'll get a working demo up on my site before the session. I'm stuck on a couple things and would really appreciate any suggestions. My previous games are here: http://devonbaumgarten.com/game... If anyone has any suggestions for improving those, they would be welcome as well. :)

I just played Flicker. It was pretty good. I can't seem to find or successfully play the rpg, possibly because my computer is old.

Thank you! I don't think I'd call any of them RPGs, but the one I demonstrated a bit is at the URL above (http://ivybaumgarten....)

Oh and don't mind the domain change. I changed my name. The old links should work.

I know this is late notice, so feel free to ban the game if I'm breaking the rules. I have a politics and alliances and backstabbing game I've been working on since Wednesday I'd like to see in action. It's very very rough.

I enjoyed your game a lot, and I'd like to play it again if you make changes you want to show us! :)

I was already planning on bringing the new version to the next meeting. :)

Was hoping to bring a new design tonight, but I had to pick up the motorcycle. Next time I'll bring it along.

I enjoyed playing 'Factions' although I'm not sure about the name. Maybe something like 'Parties' or 'Election' :)

Thanks! I am weak at naming, so I'll add those to the list for later developments to the game. I look forward to trying your mining tile game!

I'm new...do we need to bring games, or will they be supplied???

If you have something you'd like playtested bring it along, we usually have enough people bringing things to keep us occupied. :-)

I was looking forward to coming to my first one of these, but I may have to miss it. My dog got stitches this morning, and depending on how she's reacting to medication, I may need to stay home and watch her tonight.

Since Mine Town (the current working title for my tile placement underground mining game) isn't quite in a playable state (but I still would like to go over the ideas I have for it) I'm also bringing a 2p card game called 'Astro Miners' that I quickly put together for a contest a while ago. It didn't place anywhere in the contest but I still want to keep polishing it.

I've been working on a game about underground mining that tries to combine tile laying and some worker placement/pickup and deliver. It's still pretty rough.
