So grateful for this post and oppportunity to see historic sunrise event and challenge hike for me, thanks John! Haven't quite got the geocaching down but hope to keep trying and catch on eventually. Love to hike and camp just getting back in shape, will be at Agua Caliente for New Years see what caches are set up there. Have great Holidays everyone, see you next year!

Thanks John for organizing. Yes, very crowded compared to last year when we went dec 23. It's getting to be an annual event for us.

Are we going to the cache or viewing the double sunrise ? They are in two different spots. Sunrise is 649 am. If we meet then proceed at 0600, we can get to the viewing area, then if weather permits, watch the double sunrise. My profile pic was from last year. :).

The trail head on Barker Way is a longer hike to the summit than the parking lot at Golfcrest. Meeting at N[masked] W[masked] will give us the shortest route to the Cache.

Really looking forward to this! John, I just re-read the link you refer us to, and it looks like the trail on the site's map starts at a different place than I saw a parking lot you described. So, just double checking, we are meeting at the lot at approx NE corner of Navajo and Golfcrest? (NOT the trail I see off of Barker Way on the site map) Since it will be dark, can you give us a specific meeting place, or where is the trailhead from the parking lot? Thanks so much for leading!

Hi everyone, I hope you all doing well. I made a mistake when I subscribe in the winter solstice, we will be 2 personns, not 3. Have a nice evening !

I am planning to go, and might bring another cacher (Rosychaubber) and maybe my sister, Mary (not officially a cacher).

It's been a long while since I've hiked Cowles. I'm looking forward to this event.

If there is a lot of people, then the lot fill fill fast. But there is plenty of parking on the street.

Looks like a parking lot on the NE corner...

I didn't know that they have a hike planned as well. I figured it would be a busy morning. I am sure they will be aiming for the top, but I am aiming for the Cache as well as the summit.
