The Georgia GIS Coordinating Committee is sponsoring a cleanup this Sunday, Oct. 9th. The cleanup starts at 2 pm and lasts till 5 pm. I know it's last minute, but it would be great if you can make it. Some of the details are below. I'll send you the rest of the details along with the event coordinator's contact information, if you're interested. I hope to see you there!
We will be cleaning a section of the North Fork of Peachtree Creek. Peachtree Creek is a major stream in Atlanta. It flows almost due west into the Chattahoochee River just south of Vining’s. Its two major tributaries are North Fork Peachtree Creek and South Fork Peachtree Creek. The northern fork begins at the edge of Gwinnett County and flows southwest, almost perfectly parallel to Interstate 85 through DeKalb County.
Date: Sunday, October 9, 2011
Time: 2PM to 5PM
Address: 2847 Buford Highway, Atlanta, GA 30329.The Shopping Center has a red roof and has “Sun Tan” at the top of the sign, but there are multiple businesses in this complex. From 85, take the North Druid Hills exit and head West. The next intersection is Buford Highway and you will take a left. You will travel only ½ mile and the shopping center will be on your left … just before the bridge. If you cross the bridge, you missed it.
We will be cleaning behind this shopping center and also on the other side of Buford Highway in the Buckhead Creek Apartments.
What to Expect:We will be picking up trash in and around the creek. Trash can consist of plastic bottles, bags, balls (of every type), toys, tires, car parts, building materials, and yes even the kitchen sink. We will be wading in the water or walking along the banks. Even a little bit of bush-whacking might be involved. Lifting of trash-laden garbage bags required.
