Little German Band event

Meetup Message from: Clarissa Livingston, Member of The Raleigh-Durham German Language Meetup Group Maifest bei Milltown in Carrboro Hello! I'd like to suggest a one-time meetup for this coming Saturday. The Little German Band and Dancers will be performing at the gastropub called Milltown in Carrboro from 3pm to 7pm. The Little German Band plays traditional Volksmuisik (mostly Bavarian and Egerländer style) along with a couple songs from other genres like swing, tango, and rock. Most lyrics are in both German and English, so it's a rare opportunity to hear live singing in German. :) Milltown will be serving typical Biergarten food along with having some good German Bier on tap. The band will be playing outside in a courtyard that is very much like a Biergarten in Germany, with picnic benches and tables and a tree or two. I would very much appreciate you posting this as a meetup! I'll be playing in the band, so I won't be able to talk most of the time, but I look forward to some Plaudern on my breaks. :) Vielen Dank!! Mfg, Clarissa

Sorry folks for not showing up. We were stuck at a home builder's site the whole day yesterday. The past couple of days were our house trip to NC and it has been a little hectic to say the least. We are back in NY for now but I hope to meet some fellow Germans/German speaking people in the Raleigh area soon.

    A bit loud, but fun!

I found it really strange and puzzling that after nearly 20 people signed up, basically no one showed up -- particularly in view of the fact that Clarissa made so many attempts to provide helpful information.

Yes, parking was a bit problematic. I left home before Clarissa posted the note about the parking garage. But, I found a space about a block away.

The band put forth a good effort. Too bad most of you missed out on this fun event.

I was there, and I brought someone. I wasn't sure where the group was sitting. The band did a good job and the food was great. I had a great time and thank the organizer for this event.

Ernest has claimed a big picnic table outside right next to the band. :)

Hi! FYI there is a parking garage across the street from Milltown (The garage of the Hampton Inn and Suites) that you can use!!

Not sure if I am going to make it. I am helping my daughter move out of her dorm tomorrow and I don't know exactly what time or how long it will take.

Since this is an outdoor event, can I bring my dog?

I don't know if Milltown allows dogs. Even if they did, I'd advise against bringing your dog because the courtyard will get very crowded- it's not very big.

Milltown does have a bar, but I don't remember if they serve anything harder than beer and wine. The biergarten/courtyard reminded me more of a tiny version of the Biergarten am Chinesischem Turm in the Englischer Garten than the Hofbräuhaus. I remember a few kids there last time in the outdoor seating, but the crowd was overwhelmingly adult. The German Band's show does feature family friendly songs, including a few dance numbers that kids (and adults!) love. The songs' lyrics are pretty old fashioned, so when there are adult jokes in them, it's very veiled (and often in German dialects).

Here's an odd question since I've never been to said gastropub, is it like a full on bar? Is it family friendly? We use to take our on to biergartens all over Deutschland because it was acceptable but what about this place? Hofbrauhaus- ish?

Just a tip: Milltown will probably get crowded fast, so it's probably a good idea if someone comes early and carves out a table for the rest of the group. :) ( I cannot do this since I'm in the band....)
