Munchen, und Wien, of course. But I also love Venice, Amsterdam, London and Paris.
October 18, and I was born in the Year of the Dragon in the Chinese Calendar. I missed the Baby Boom by three years. This is my year, 2012 is the year of the dragon and I expect it to be a successful, powerful year even though I'm not superstitious, do not believe in astrology and do not pray to any supernatural god or gods.
I do speak and read German, of course. Does anyone ever completely forget their mother tongue? It just seems to be getting rusty. When my mother was still alove I called her every Sunday at 11am here which was 7pm in Vienna and we talked for an hour. Family gossip, Vienna and Austria politics, world affairs, etc. Now that she is gone, those opportunities are gone too.
Because I like the fellowship with other German speakers, sometimes even Austrians or Swiss. I did meet a fellow Viennese guy through one of these meetup sites. We wound up speaking mostly English when it was just the two of us. At a Stammtisch meeting the temptation is not that great because there are so many people around you, all speaking German.
I have been in this country so long I forgot how to speak German properly which is what I grew up speaking for heaven's sake! Born and raised in Vienna and left at 21. US citizen by choice. Divorced, 2 adult children, Oma of two and one on the way.
Nette Leute - friendly people overall. I'll go again. Ich komme bestimmt wieder. The food was fabulous and the people couldn't be nicer. Im Allgemeinen war es ein sehr gemuetliches Treffen.
