Intro to HTML/CSS

Want to learn how to build your own website? Already have your own Tumblr/Wordpress/etc site, but want to have more control over it? Interested in learning to program but want to start small? This class is for you!

We will guide you through the basics of HTML and CSS, give you some readily-applicable skills, and answer any questions you may have along the way. This is an introductory course that covers the basics of building a website. There are no prerequisites--this is our intro-level course.

The course will be co-taught by Alexis Goldstein, author of the book "HTML5 and CSS3 for the Real World", and Brenda Storer.

Note: When you register, you must provide your first and last name for entrance into the AOL building. You will need to check in at the front desk before going to the 5th floor.

Because we must have the class list in advance, registration closes the day before this class.

This 4-class HTML/CSS course runs for four Thursdays:

Class 1, Introduction to HTML: Sept 12, 7-9pm

Class 2, Introduction to CSS: Sept 19, 7-9pm

Class 3, HTML, beyond the basics: Sept 26, 7-9pm

Class 4, CSS, layouts and formatting: Oct 3, 7-9pm

Please install the following prior to class:

Either Chrome, or Firefox + Firebug:

-   Firebug, a Firefox extension with a plethora of tools handy in web development
-   Firefox browser

You can take a sneak peak at the material here: http://www.girldevelopit.com/materials. Look for the HTML and CSS core curriculum.

Is there any way to see where you are on the waitlist?

    September 12, 2013

    • Michael B.

That's not how the waitlist works. Everyone is at the top of the waitlist, so to speak. As soon as you see someone drop out, you come back here and change your RSVP to YES and make your payment.

If we are unable to make one of the days would there be anyway to make it up? I'd love to go but I'll be out of town for some of it.

I believe you need to attend all in person

Ah ok, thanks. I'm glad I clarified before I purchased. Next time for sure!

  • Elise S.

I'll take the spot! Been dying to get in!

    September 4, 2013

    • Michael B.

In order to take the spot, you have to go up the RSVP area and change your RSVP to YES. If the spot is still available, your YES will take and you will be asked to make payment.

    Hi,
I'd love to take this course but I'm not sure if it suits what I'm looking to do. I am interested in development of course, but more so mobile app development. Would the course material apply to apps as well or only websites? Does the naïveté of this question reveal how far removed I am from being a techie? :-/ lol

Whatever you're planning to do, you need to know the basics of HTML and CSS.

    • Alexis g.

Janine this is the basics of building a website. It's not a course on mobile development, and so will not cover making apps.

I would like to know is the intermediate html/css (core curriculum) included in what we will be learning in the intro to html and css class? Is it a break down of the intro to html and css or separate? Please let me know i did rsvp because i assumed intermediate html/css will be taught. Correct me if i am wrong.
