JavaScript is a the language of interactivity on the web. Ever used Google maps? Clicked on something to make it appear or hide? Seen a slideshow of images? You have used JavaScript! Learn how to beginning and start creating interactive sites. We will be covering basic Javascript, to the JQuery library, dynamic HTML, JSON and APIs (don't worry this will all make sense by the end of class!)

Because JavaScript interacts with HTML elements, we suggest having a working knowledge of HTML as a pre-requisite for this course.

This 4-class JavaScript course runs on the following schedule:

Class 1: Introduction to JavaScript

Tuesday, Jan 8 from 7:00 - 9:00pm

Class 2: Functions, Arrays, Loops and Objects
Tuesday, Jan 15 from 7:00 - 9:00pm

Class 3: Introduction to jQuery
Tuesday, Jan 22 from 7:00 - 9:00pm

Class 4: AJAX, APIs and sharing data
Tuesday, Jan 29 from 7:00 - 9:00pm

Note: When you register, you MUST provide your first and last name for security at AOL. You will check in at the front desk before going up to the 5th floor.

About the teacher

Leo Newball, Jr has had a fascination with technology since he was 11 years old. Since that early age, he immersed himself in the world of technology, often referred to as the stereotypical computer geek in neighborhood and school. Interests became action when, throughout middle school and high school, he taught computer literacy to individuals of all ages, and performed computer consultancy to individuals on a one-to-one basis. His interests always lay with emerging and evolving technology, thus as the Internet became an evolving force, his attention was drawn in its direction.

    Hey gang,

I talked to a couple of girls last week about getting coffee or a drink after the meetup this week. So... let's do it! If you know of a place near AOL (a place where we would actually be able to hear each other), let's head over after the session to talk about all the things.

    See you tonight!

Depends on how many people come along, but we can check out if the continental has free tables or we can head over to the sly fox.

Hi I'm a new member and just got into the HTML/CSS class and I'm very excited. I know the Intro to Java is now full, but would really like to join this class in the future. Please keep me posted when the next class gets posted. Also, really interested in taking Ruby. Any ideas if you will have a Ruby course in the next few months? So very glad I found GDI!!!

  • Debra H.

Hi, I'm on the waiting list. When will I find out if I got into the class? Should I show up in case someone is unable to attend, making a spot available? Thanks - Debra

    January 6, 2013

    • Leo N.

Hi Debra. When someone drops from the class, Meetup will send you (and those on the mailing list) an update on whether a spot is open or not. If you want, you can check during the days leading up to the class if any spots open up. If, say, near the time class begins and there is a spot, I'm sure we can arrange something.
