Newbie HTML/CSS Class

Want to learn how to build your own website? Already have your own site and want to have more control over it? Interested in learning to program, but want to start small? If you answered yes to any of the questions above, this course is for you!

In this course, we'll walk you through the basics of both HTML and CSS and help you use them to create a simple website.

We will meet Tuesday, February 4th from 7-9 PM and continue to meet for the following three Tuesdays (a four-week course in all) through Tuesday, February 25th. (Due to the restrictions of Meetup's registration, we can't schedule multi-day events, so keep in mind that this Meetup event serves as registration for the entire class.)

This class will be taught by Kim Hamper.

Tech Requirements:

• Your personal laptop that can access wifi.

• A modern browser with either Chrome or both Firefox and Firebug installed.

• A text editor. We recommend Sublime Text 2. (It's free and available for both Mac and PC.)

We can also offer possible scholarships! If you have questions about scholarships or any of the above, please contact Kim ([masked]).

I love the relaxed atmosphere and knowledge of the teacher/teacher assistants.

Are the slides available? Hopefully this next week, the weather holds and the kids stay well so I can manage to get out of the house! In the mean time, I'd love to play catch up. Thanks!

Are we still having a class tonight with the icy weather approaching?

    February 4, 2014

    • Kim

Yep, I've been watching the weather and we're just going to go for it. (Everyone cross your fingers.)

I just saw this today also and would love to this but my schedule is slammed the next couple of tuesdays with another class... will there be another one like this available again?

    February 4, 2014

    • Kim

Absolutely! We run this class at least twice a year. We're currently thinking we'll run this again in the early fall, but it's still TBD.

I'm interested in re-learning html/css. I took a class in it years ago. Looking forward to this class!

Hello: I look forward to tonight's class!

I just saw this today and would really like to take the course. However, tonight, I would need to leave early to pick up my son from practice at 9. I'd need to leave 30 minutes early. Will that cause me a problem for the first night? I am sure I can make arrangements for the upcoming weeks, but I am stuck for tonight. Pleae let me know.

Hi Jackie! We are going to give you the slides to download, so you should be able to get caught up on the last 30 minutes at home. Likely the last 30 minutes will be a lab, not presentation of new concepts. If you come to the second class a few minutes early, we can answer any questions, and I'll give out my email for questions as well. Hope that helps!

If a class gets canceled, will there be a make-up time for it? I'm inquiring because I live 1.5 hours away and would need to figure out my work schedule if that were to happen. Thanks!

    • Kim

Hi Nick! Hopefully we won't have to cancel any (cross fingers). If we do, we'd most likely finish up on February 4th (so an extra Tuesday).

Will this class be offered again in March? I have some others interested for future sessions.

    January 27, 2014

    • Kim

Hi Bryan - We most likely will not be offering the class again until the fall. We will be running other classes in the upcoming months instead (Ruby, JavaScript, an intermediate HTML/CSS class).

Thank you for the info Kim. See you next week! It's great to know that there will be intermediate classes following this intro course.

I don't have a laptop, but I have an iPad. Would that work?

    January 20, 2014

    • Kim

Hi Jessica! You would have a hard time with an iPad. If you can't find a laptop to use, we can probably find one you can borrow during class. Let me know if that's what you'd like to do!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
