The group's first meeting was in August 2008. I made this group because I love to read and always love when I run into someone who's read the same book as me and I am always looking for new book recommendations. I moved to London in Oct 2007 and didn't know too many people. I thought this would be a good way to meet people with the same interests.
The group meets once a month to discuss that months book. We read a wide variety of book types from auto biographies, fiction, prize winners, memoirs and chick lit. It's not your typical Chick book club. We have intelligent conversation over wine and the book usually gets discussed for about half of the meeting until we switch to other topics.
The meeting are really well attended and until I find a bigger location there is always a waiting list. If you find that an event you would like to attend it full make sure that you add yourself to the waiting list as there is always a fall off rate of almost 50% closer to the date. In most cases you'll find if you want to attend you'll be able to.
Also, please do keep your RSVP current. I understand how plans change, work comes up etc but if you can foresee any difficulties with your attendance I would appreciate it if you'd change your RSVP to reflect your situation as soon as possible as there are always others hoping to take your spot.
Each month that goes by has resulted in me and others getting to know each other fairly well but if you're new to the group please rest assured there are ALWAYS new faces at every meeting and I hope you find we are a very welcoming bunch. A lot of the girls are ex-pats.... mainly from Canada and the US but we do have people from many other countries including: India, Australia, Wales and France to mention a few. There are also a fair amount of English in our group and we are happy to have ladies from all countries.
I also plan other extra curricular events for the group. If you have something in mind you think the group might be interested in attending let me know and I can always send out an email or even make it an event on our calender. Anything from Gallery openings, Shows, exhibitions or get togethers... I love to hear about them all and will most certainly spread the word.
I think that is about everything. You can always email me with any questions or concerns and most definitely book recommendations. I've only chosen the books we've read twice all the other choices come from the group!
