GHF September Pub Night: Thirsty Lion Washington Square

The Thirsty Lion at Washington Square is one of the best locations to meet on the entire west side, in my humble opinion.  They know how to handle large groups well, and have a great group area that encourages mingling and conversation.  Plus, they have a great happy hour food menu, 52 beers on tap, and a top quality staff.  We've been here twice this year already, and both times were fantastic events for everyone.  Come join us for a favorite beverage, some good food, and a lively evening!

    Hi Gary,
How will I find the group? I've only attended one event with this group and I'm afraid I won't recognize anyone.

We will be set up in the area behind the bar, and I will have a couple of signs posted on the edge of our group. The hostesses at the front entrance will also know who and where we are.

Gary, so sorry I am going to have to miss this ~ one of my fav pubs, one of my fav foods, great people ~ well worth the drive from Va, WA to Tigard. But, my cough is relentless, my taste buds are dead, and I am exhausted.
Maybe I love Scotch eggs because the first time I ate them was after a memorable evening in London which found me wearing a chauffeur's cap, driving a Rolls Royce, evading a police car, ending up in a small underground pub and being treated to scotch eggs & Whatney's Red Barrel by the loser of the chase). Scotch eggs taste of VICTORY!

Have a GREAT TIME ~ if anyone tries scotch eggs, give me some feedback, or better yet, have fun making it an Alice's Restaurant Anti-Massacre Movement (or, a 'Jeanne's got bronchitis, but has vivid dreams of Tasty Tidbits' Movement) event:

The frist person ordering, stand up & sing "You can get anything you want, but Jeanne says to try scotch eggs".
Second person, stand & sing "You can get anything you want, but Jeanne said to try scotch eggs".
Third person "they taste great with hot mus-tard, you'll want a second, maybe a third"
Fourth person, stand & sing "You can get anything you want, but Jeanne said to try scotch eggs".
Quiet voice "(you know you want to)"
All: "Jeanne said to try scotch eggs". (stomp, stomp).

As Arlo Guthrie said ~ One person does it they may think he's really sick... And can you imagine fifty people a day, walking in singin a bar of Alice's Restaurant and Walking out. And friends they may thinks it's a movement.
(Can you tell that the codeine is kicking in?)

    Hi Gary,

I expect to be there between 5:30 p.m and 6:00 p.m. as I'm working until 5:00 in downtown Portland.

What time do you plan on wrapping things up? I've got another commitment until 7pm in the Beaverton area - would try to stop by if the parrrty is still going on!

What do you think about doing a Portland one next month Gary? Recently it is kind of like the west side club.

    1 · September 21, 2013

Yikes - I guess my comment was not so appropriate. Does that happen on the west side too or more of a downtown sort of thing. Sorry Gary - I was one of those with no excuse except I was working from home that day and totally forgot.

Scotch eggs? The best of British (or Scotch) pub food: a soft hard-boiled egg encased in sausage, then in bread crumbs, then either deep-fried or baked - yummy dipped in hot mustard. They gave me a few tips on how to make them. Had to comment here - iPhone won't let me reply to comments.

thanks Gary for the Westside meetups. We need more of them "out here" IMHO. :o) It is very nice to not have to deal with the traffic and parking hassles of downtown.
