Announcing a new Meetup for Glass Half Full!

What: Cascade Head hike on the coast

When: Saturday, August 7,[masked]:00 AM

Where: Sunset Transit Center
10470 SW Barnes Rd
Beaverton, OR 97005

Imagine standing high atop a windswept, flower-covered prairie, with the sea and the coast spread out below you and not a tree to block the view. Well that's cascade head. We will get there through this hike and the scenery we will see is what I would call 'Signature Oregon'.

Cascade head is a headland and 270-acre UNESCO biosphere reserve and United States Forest Service Experimental Forest. It is on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean - surrounded by water on all three sides and is characterized by high, breaking waves, rocky shores, and steep sea cliffs. The salmon river estuary is also visible from the viewpoint allowing us to see the point where the river empties itself into the might ocean.

This will be a moderate 5 mile hike. We will take the lower nature conservancy trail 4 miles to Cascade head. The trail takes us through Cascade head. Take a break there and and finish the last 1 mile by taking the upper nature conservancy trail.

The trailhead is 81 miles from Portland. (U.S. 101 & N 3 Rocks Rd, Otis, OR 97368) and slightly north of Lincoln City. My plan is to carpool from Portland. The trail does not loop, so we will have to have at least two cars and organize a shuttle - leaving cars at the starting point and end point on the trail. After the hike we can go into Lincoln city and get dinner/drinks. Look forward to the hike and meeting everyone.

Can we meet at Sunset Transit Center in Beaverton and Carpool? Let's meet by the ticket machines and plan for our carpool. If you don't see me please call me at[masked]- 1714. If you want to drive please mention that in your RSVP and how many your vehicle can take.
