Where: Limo Peruvian Resturant 2340 NW Westover Rd Portland, OR 97210
Malbec is a French grape that is a small part of Bordeaux blends. But it has found it's home in the hot, dry, high altitudes of western Argentina on the east slope of the second highest mountain range on the planet. Mendoza, Argentina is where all but one of these wines will be coming from. Think Bend, OR at higher altitude...
Our host and owner of Limo, Josue, has picked out 6 excellent examples of Argentinian Malbecs for us. He'll also be enticing our taste buds with Argentine inspired food bites paired with this wonderful wine. And, yes, these are better than the non-descript $10 bottles you find at Freddie's. These are the ones he's got on his wine list for $30-$42. Yes, we'll be tasting some of the most expensive wines on his wine list.
Malbec is considered the premier grape of Argentina. The Mendoza region is the leading producer of Malbec in Argentina. The flavors of a good Malbec should include: cherry, plum, raspberry, and occasionally chocolate. Aging in oak barrels can also bring out aromas of vanilla and leather. Argentine Malbec wine is characterized by its deep color and intense fruity flavors with a velvety texture.
Josue is also offering our meetup group 25% off any additional wines you want to purchase that evening; by the glass or by the bottle. http://www.limorestaurant.com/
