Glug London presents 'Creative Startups'

Please note: Cargo imposes a strict door policy with ID scanner, please have a photo ID with you to avoid difficulties upon entrance.

Hi Gluggers,

You're probably still getting ready for this Thursday's event at Shoreditch Town Hall, but if you've not got a ticket or even if you have - we've got some great news for you in the form of June's summer event back @Cargo on Thursday 27th!

Yes it's time for more beers, more fun and hopefully some sunshine. We're going to be having special Glug cocktails on the terrace and burgers in the baking heat that is London in June. Well maybe.

We're also moving back to the old format of one single ticket price of £7 for everyone. Yes it's been great at the old Town Hall but we think the summer months are better spent @Cargo with all their outside space and bars. Plus we're introducing a bit of a British Summer Fête vibe with a host of stalls throughout the outside areas.

RSVP / BUY TICKETS HERE NOW before they sell out!

Anyway, without further ado here's the theme for June

"Creative Startups" celebrates all the new talent, start-ups, new business, up and coming talent and well established big hitters like Morag Myerscough in there too, as they talk about setting up, the challenges and the stuff you never get to hear about.

RSVP / BUY TICKETS HERE NOW

NB: Please note, for those of you that haven't been to a Glug @Cargo, the talks room can only hold 300 or so people so not everyone can get in at one time. That said if you're desperate to see them all it's first come first served, people will go in and out though throughout the evening. The rest of us will be outside enjoining the beer and sunshine.

Entry price also includes a drink or a burger, hurrah!

Thanks

Is there any chance the videos could be made available to those who attended? I was there with a partially deaf friend who found it incredibly hard to hear the speakers (as did I). Other than that I thought it was a good selection of speakers and a great atmosphere.

There were far too many people and it was impossible to get a seat, so I left early. Good concept, nice crowd but the talks were too basic for my taste.

    • Nick C.

Ah, there's no pleasing some people.

      June 28, 2013

    • Alex / L.

Well you asked for feedback and I tried to balance it out, as I do think the concept's good. So there you go, best to you all.

It's the first time I've ever been frisked to get into a design/creative event—the security arrangements we're a bit of a joke! Agree that the talk area was far too small for the amount of people. I had to find the manager myself to get the sound put on in the other bar so we could hear. Still like the concept—speakers were good (when we could hear them), just think the venue isn't suited. Four stars for the event. One star for the venue...

      Cheers, we'll have a word.

Personally, I thought it worked well. Yes there was limited room for the talks but there was a good atmosphere and all sorts of people around to chat with. And seriously, if you went along and didn't speak to anyone new you only have yourself to blame :)

Thanks for the effort in setting it up guys.

Enjoyed last night, a couple of the talks didn't seem relevant but for the most part some really insightful stuff as per usual. Been to quite a few now so prepared for the miserable door experience and extortionate bar prices, just as well I got my drinks bought for me! thanks @jinx and @flyotw. Win!

I have three tickets for tonight. They are with me in Farringdon/Clerkenwell. If you want them drop me a note. need to be collected before 6pm though.

Just wanted to put something on here in relation to the comments about the talks room being too small. I appreciate the frustration but... 1stly we do highlight this throughout all the emails and on this site that the talks room is small @Cargo and it's first come first served. We try to put in beer breaks so hopefully the room empties and new people can come in. We've tried to also show the video and sound in the 2nd room. If you've been to the events at Shoreditch Town Hall this is much more formal and everyone gets a seat. Crucially though we've always said Glug is not just about the talks but the Notworking, the drinking and talking to other creative people. If we only sold 300 tickets then the rest of the venue would be empty and within 2 events everyone would be saying what a rubbish event it is! We've even tried to sell talks and notworking tickets separately but that doesn't work and people get confused. So I'm afraid over the summer months this is the preferred option.

Without a doubt the worst meetup ever.... What a dump whole and waist of time... just an excuse to get drunk ... as far as business if anyone got anything out of it...than please tell me where I mist it. I dont even give it one start...nothing!

    3 · June 28, 2013

    • Nick C.

What exactly was the problem? Didn't you see the talks? Also there is drinking to be done, that's the point.

Nice bunch of people and and promising concept. The room with presentations was far too crowded though - no apparent interior door control leading to crush / aggression / fire-risk issues. Some talks flawed by rambling and lack of enforced time control. Overpriced bar. Left early

    1 · June 27, 2013

    • Nick C.

The talks started just after 7 as planned. Three beer breaks. Drink prices: Blame cargo I'm afraid, club prices. It's hard finding a venue that ticks all the boxes in London. We're open to suggestions.

      June 28, 2013

The order was correct, I think you may have been a bit squiffy.

My only qualm was that the bar prices were ridiculous. £31 for two double spirits and mixer and two shots?

Sorry fella, nothing we can do about Cargo's prices. We'll be sure to ask about drinks promotions, but it's unlikely there.
