Glug London presents - Toys R'US (& Noma Bar)

Hi,

We're very pleased to announce details of our first Glug Event of 2010, in association with one of our favourite Illustration Collectives - This Is Toy!

http://www.thisistoy....

Full details and additions to the lineup will be announced over the coming weeks but expect a live art and illustration fete style event, held over both floors of The Book Club (http://www.wearetbc.c...) in Shoreditch, on Wednesday 24th March.

From t-shirt printing, to vinyl wall murals, a live design workshop and a couple of very special talks. Chris and the 'Toy Team' will be showing work from 6.30pm. Then at 7.30pm we're very pleased to have Noma Bar doing a special talk about his work, his life and all things negative space...

NOMA BAR

Then from 8.00pm we've got a couple of live bands and Dj set downstairs, but as always if that's not your cup of tea there's always ping pong, darts and pool for everyone! ;-)

As our first event of 2010, and to encourage people to buy tickets early. We're giving away a free drink and a free food voucher for each of the first 200 tickets purchased. We've also just been given a copy of Flash CS4 from Adobe that one lucky Glugger will walk away with!

BUY TICKETS HERE
We only have 400 tickets to sell so please do it quick before they run out...(these are priced £5/$7.60)

Further line-up and giveaways to come over the next few weeks. Hope you can all make it.
Thanks
Ian (& Nick)

Hi. I'm new to this and was just wondering when the payment status is likely to change from pending as its been like that for a couple of weeks now, can I still print the ticket out and it will be valid? Thanks

Very weird, not sure why it's doing that. Can you email someone at PayPal about it.

If not let me know on the day and we'll sort something out for you.

If anyone had paid for a ticket and it's not showing up here, I'd suggest you email Paypal first about it, then if that fails email Adrian@studio-output.com and he'll sort out with you...

I emailed paypal and all they said to me was 'The recipient hasn't yet accepted this payment.'

Hi Ian. Same problem here: money taken from my card, but PayPal shows it as unclaimed by Studio Output, and Meetup shows "pending." Sounds like you need to claim the payments somehow?

I have to admit I wasn't there, my wife had a baby on Saturday so I'm currently knee deep in nappies and sick! Heard the 'This Is Toy' crew and live art stuff was brilliant. Sorry to everyone who weren't happy about the sound system for the talks. I guess we need to consider this better in future and make it a bit more formal. Obviously the next event at Sommerset House will be completely different anyway and on such a bigger scale, but still we'll make sure these are better and then moving forward look to improve on this.

Great on the whole just a few technical difficulties.

The basement was overcrouded, and if you did not geit in time you could not hear or see a thing from the speakers. An extra screen and better sound would have done the job. Otherwise nice venue and good time.

The talk was somewhat disappointing. People in the back could hear what Noma had to say. I will also expecting more from the talk. I go to these things with an expectation to learn more about the designer/artist that I didn't know before. Not to get a greatest hits concert. As apart from some 'background info' the beginning of his talk, he was only showing his work and saying what it was about. Work that we all have seen in the Guardian, books or online before. All of this wasn't helped by a particularly bad sound system.

The evening was great (food, drinks, company etc.) but I felt the format of the talks really let the whole thing down. If you're expecting that many people to come who have paid good money to see a talk (not just paying to get into a bar), then don't stick the stage/projector screen in a corner where no-one could see it. It's great that so many people are interested but I have a real pain in my neck this morning from trying to crane over other heads, finding gaps where you could see the work from. Thanks very much, and sorry for the rant.

Way too many people in the venue, couldn't see a thing. Soundsystem was awful, thus couldn't hear a thing either. Not really the kind of environment in which to take in a talk by a great illustrator, who turns out to not be such a great public speaker, though this is perhaps besides the point...
