Special FREE viewing of "Girl Rising" followed by dinner in Evanston

Rotary International is a global humanitarian organization with 1.2 million members worldwide. Their international headquarters are located in our very own Evanston!

On Thursday, October 10, Rotary will be showing a special screening of "Girl Rising" for FREE to the public! I'm so excited to go as I STILL have yet to see this movie. We'll also grab dinner after the event so we can discuss the film.

For those of you who live or work in downtown Chicago, you can get to Rotary via a quick purple line express ride up to the Davis stop. Depending on where you are, it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to about 45 minutes to get there. There is also ample parking and lots of great places to eat :)

Click Here to RSVP or just let us know you're coming here and we'll add you to the list. Hope to see you there!

Here are some words from our friends at Rotary:

To commemorate the International Day of the Girl, Evanston-based Rotary International will screen the new film Girl Rising, a documentary on the lives and voices of nine unforgettable girls born into unforgiving circumstances at 6 p.m. on 10 October - third floor auditorium at One Rotary Center (1560 Sherman Ave. Evanston).

Girl Rising is directed by Academy Award-nominee Richard E. Robbins and narrated by Hollywood stars including Cate Blanchett, Priyanka Chopra, Selena Gomez, Anne Hathaway, Salma Hayek, Alicia Keys, Chloë Moretz, Liam Neeson, Freida Pinto, Meryl Streep, and Kerry Washington. The movie is the centerpiece of 10x10 – a global campaign to educate and empower girls. Girl Rising premiered earlier this year on 7 March, the eve of International Women’s Day, and has since been screened at hundreds of theaters around the country -- more than 1,700 screenings have been requested around the nation to date.

The film will be screened in the 188-person auditorium at Rotary’s World Headquarters, which supports the humanitarian activities of 34,000 Rotary clubs in 200 countries. Rotary was founded in Chicago in 1905 and headquartered in Evanston since 1954.  Similar to how Rotary members gather each week to exchange ideas and develop plans for improving communities at home and abroad, the auditorium will be open to the public, with the intention of serving as a community forum and catalyst for discussions on important local issues and international topics.

This event is FREE and open to the community

Space is limited so please reserve your seat today. Click Here to RSVP

We hope you will join us!

Cheers,

Rotary International

I had a blast! I love that this group is so multi-dimensional--social, travel, networking AND philanthropic. I'm looking forward to future events and hanging out with these awesome Go Girls!

This will be my first event--are we meeting and trying to go in as a group? (Just a little nervous....I don't know anyone!!)

Great question, Darcy! I guess it will depend on how early people can get to Evanston. Maybe what we can do is plan to meet at 5:45 exactly and go in together, and I'll pass along my phone number for anyone who lags behind. I'm really excited about this event -- should be a lot of fun! Will send an email out to everyone saying as much and collecting feedback about who would be up for dinner after.
