@Yan, @Bernard: I guess that it really depends because so many languages use exceptions for general purpose error handling whereas others use them only in "exceptional" situations that are truly unrecoverable.

Yes thanks guys for the very practical info.
@Yan: I read that FAQ before but I'm always mindful of not drinking too much of the creator's KoolAid. It was good to get Mark and other's first hand account. That's why I came to the meetup.
Thanks everyone for the very informative chit chat. You're a crowd I can relate to.

Thanks Alec and Gareth for the talks. For people who are curious why Go does not have try-catch, actually Google has answered the question in its FAQ(https://golang.org/doc/faq#exceptions). Also, I recommend an article which I read long time ago about why try-catch should be avoided: http://codebetter.com/karlseguin/2010/01/25/don-t-use-try-catch/ Hope it's useful for you.

This could be out of my depth but I'm always up for something new.

I doubt it. I'm going to talk about how to set up a Go project directory structure, real baby steps -- cause I'm a golang n00b as well
