Announcing a new Meetup for GrassrootsCamp!

What: Viral Video Secrets: Using Video to Engage your Non-Profit's Members

When: Monday, December 13,[masked]:00 PM

Where: New Work City
412 Broadway Floor 2
New York, NY 10013

If there were an award for best non-profit awareness campaign of 2010, the award would almost certainly go to It Gets Better. Their use of user-generated, viral video content took a simple concept for creating positive messages for LGBT youth and, with some basic technology tools, drove a national campaign to the highest levels. But how did they do it and how could your organization do something equally effective? Most organizations think of using video in very simplistic ways, if they even think of doing it at all. And many dismiss using video because they assume they would have to come up with some clever idea, hire a production crew, or other complicated measures only to find that they had a video but hadn't gained anything from it. But video doesn't need to be complicated or expensive.

Phil Ripperger of knows all the tricks of the streaming video trade. He has helped empower campaigns for the National Wildlife Campaign, Live Earth, North Shore Animal League and the Personal Democracy Forum, as well as a number for-profit companies. He will give a presentation on the fundamental concepts of viral and user-generated video content, and the basic tools needed to mount an effective campaign - from the free and the cheap to the more advanced private sector streaming video platforms.

Additional speakers may be added - check back for details. If you think you have something to add to the discussion, or you know someone who would be a good speaker for this event or any other, drop me a note at [address removed].

We will open the doors starting around 6:45, with the presentation kicking off at 7:00pm sharp. And whether you are planning on coming or you just want to make sure that the people who are coming have a great time, remember to BeerItForward and donate enough for a beer or six.
