Hey there Goodniks:
I hope all of you made it safely through the storm. Some of you are probably dealing with power outages and flooding in lower Manhattan, parts of Brooklyn, and other areas throughout NYC. But for those of you who aren't, I thought I'd send out a few links to connect you with ways that you can help fellow New Yorkers manage with the impact of hurricane Sandy.
Goodnik member Justin Wedes works with several organizations here in NYC and they've launched a city-wide Sandy Relief project called #SandyVolunteer. They've set up a site, https://lowereastside.recovers.org/ with the folks at Recovers.org, and are now accepting money donations, offers of volunteer hours and supplies focusing first on the LES and then branching out to other affected neighborhoods as they grow.
If you'd like to help out with , visit the site and sign up and or call/text their info number (646)[masked].
If you're interested in helping in other areas than lower manhattan, The Red Cross is taking donations at RedCross.org, of course, but for those interested in volunteering locally, you can reach out to [address removed] to find opportunities in your community.
Best, and stay safe,
