Google's approach to malware on the web

Google's approach to malware on the web

This presentation will be held in English. Cette présentation sera en anglais.

By: Catalin Patulea, Software Developer at Google and works on the SafeBrowsing team in Montreal.

Catalin Patulea develops large scale malware detection infrastructure at Google. Before that, he studied at Carleton University in Ottawa. He strives for efficient, maintainable and reliable software, in C++,
Python and occasionally Go. In his spare time he contributes to open-source projects like Dropbear, OpenWrt, libmtp and Rockbox. His biggest fears are technical debt and pointers that have the value "7".

Google SafeBrowsing protects millions of web users by detecting malicious sites and warning users before they try to access a site that may compromise their computer. We will discuss the nature and scale of malware distribution on the web and how users, webmasters and network administrators can use SafeBrowsing to protect themselves. We'll also explore the structure of a malicious web site in detail, how we detect these sites, and discuss recent malware trends such as social engineering attacks.

Agenda :

5:30 - 6:00pm Registration, networking

6:00 - 6:05pm  Welcome and introduction

6:05 - 6:50pm Google's approach to malware on the web by Catalin Patulea

See you there!

Catalin Patulea

It is good to see some corporations taking an active stance on problems. The combination of techniques and continual modifications to keep up is great.
