Hey Everyone, I ran across this article on making prototypes for Glass. In case anyone is interested.

What is your preferred email for contact? Or should I direct meetup organizers to email you through Meetup.com?

      February 17, 2014

    • James C.

Right! You are welcome to email me directly at [masked]!

Build your web or mobile app on Google Cloud Platform and get $2,000 of credit to get started. Apply at http://goo.gl/4tHrt0 and use promo code: dfgdg-con. This offer includes $1,000 in Google App Engine credit and $1,000 in Google Compute Engine credit. App Engine is a full development stack (PaaS), and Compute Engine lets you run workloads on Linux virtual machines (IaaS).

As long as you logged in your gmail.
if you go here you can buy the glasses you can take to an eye doctor who says they will do it.
Go here to find a doctor:

That was very helpful, because it shows the clip-ons on model

      February 10, 2014

    • Csaba T.

...on model's faces, and I can tell right now that the lense area of the clip-ons would be too much for my diopter. Only the glasses would work for me, which look like the Warby-Parker ones.

For those asking about prescription lenses with Google Glass, more info here: http://gplc.rochesteroptical.com

    February 9, 2014

    • Csaba T.

I was reading about http://www.warbyparke..., but that would be complete frames (you'd have to detach the Glass hardware and reattach). http://www.theverge.c... and it'd be $225. Maybe I like the clip-on better?

      February 9, 2014

    • Louis C.

I think I would like the clip-on better, as trying to wear them with my prescription lenses is quite cumbersome. I'm not sure about the cutout and how that would affect viewing the display, but testing without use of my prescription lenses or contacts makes the display less optimal.

Related to big data technology: it seems that AWS will have a meetup in Fresno, right now it's AWS Napa: http://www.meetup.com/AWS-NAPA/events/157778092/

I had a lot of fun last night. Even though I do mostly design I can appreciate what programmers do and it's something that I am growing an interest in. So thanks for the talk Csaba it was great.

    February 7, 2014

  • Mark Simonian M.

I sure enjoyed this program and have a better appreciation of Hadoop. Look forward to hearing more about Glass experience with users since I think we had at least 4 at the meeting. Even if we don't talk about the programming aspect for the entire future program it would be nice to hear how others are embracing the wearable technology.

I have a VMWare appliance running Hadoop. The link below. It will run on the free version of VMWare Player.

Actually I have it running on a pretty decent laptop. i7 w/16 GB RAM a HP EliteBook 8660w. I'll bring a network switch and cables just in case we have time to play.

Csaba, thanks I'm looking forward to learning about Hadoop! I'm watching some basic videos right now!

    1 · February 6, 2014

  • Csaba T.

Is it at 6pm or 7pm? I see two events in my calendar, maybe the 7pm came from G+?

    February 6, 2014

    • Csaba T.

Never mind, must be 6pm. The 7pm entry must be an outdated one, when the location was Bitwise. We'll meet at The Hashtag. Sorry for the confusion.

"Come and join us to learn the fundamentals of Map-Reduce and Hadoop. Map-Reduce is a technique you can tackle massively parallel tasks and Hadoop is an open source implementation of it. The main goal is to understand the Map-Reduce pattern and see some demonstration and learn about Hadoop."

Please modify that as you wish to make it better.

    About myself:
"Csaba Toth is an Application Developer in Fresno. He is interested in all the platforms, programming languages and paradigms. He is co-organizer of the Central California .NET User Group, co-founder of Nashville Java User Group, ex co-organizer of NashDotNet User Group."

Hahaha :), cut out the "Please modify that as you wish to make it better." part

More details on the presentation: since this is the GDG, I'll demo Google Compute Engine and Google Cloud Storage for Hadoop

I am bringing some chocolate chip cookies, some AJ's hummus and chips, some water and coke zero. I look forward to seeing folks there.

That's a really great book, that's what I'm reading right now. I bought it through O'Reilly, I wish I knew it's so cheap on Amazon. It goes details into finicky details what I really won't have time to cover.

    Have class on Thursday nights.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
