Let's start off Super Bowl Sunday with a great hike! We're heading back to Corona Del Mar to hike one of my favorite trails, Buck Gully.
Buck Gully is about a 5.2 miles out and back hike and not overly difficult.
Buck Gully Reserve is a natural, coastal canyon in the City of Newport Beach. The canyon is bounded by urbanized areas, including single-family residences, roadways, and the Pelican Hills Golf Course. The watershed draining into Buck Gully encompasses approximately 1,200 acres and includes portions of the San Joaquin foothills.
Directions to the meetup location-- Please read this and look at the location map Meetup provides.
From the 73 Freeway, take the MacArthur exit and head south for 2.3 miles. Turn left on San Joaquin Hills Road, go 0.7 miles and turn right on Marguerite. Go 0.8 miles and turn left on 5th Ave. Drive to the end of 5th and park on the side of the road on Poppy. (Note that there is no public parking on Poppy north of 5th). From Pacific Coast Highway, go north on Poppy (left if you are coming from the north, right if from the south) and park just before 5th.
As of Thursday, the chance of rain is only 20%. So things are looking good for the hike!
A couple things to note:
Dogs are not permitted on this trail.
Meetup time is 8:30 and we step off at 8:40. As usual, I apologize in advance for leaving you behind if you are late.
Please make sure you bring water and sun protection.
Let's Get Out There, Orange County. Time to hike through the areas you drive past all the time.
