Everyone wants knowledgeable, reliable, honest crew & nobody wants to get stuck with an annoying fool, even for a few hours sail.

So wouldn't it be great if you could actually meet with a group of willing crew and get to know individuals before inviting anyone aboard?

The Gotham City Sailing Association is a group of like minded sailors, both captains and potential crew, who get together one evening a month (more during the season), in a relaxed informal public place. Anyone with an interest in sailing is welcome to attend regardless of experience. We just ask that you share your enthusiasm. Bring a friend or show up on your own. There are crew of all levels, from eager beginners and cruisers right up to seasoned skippers and racers.

The volunteer organizer of the group, Karen, took over the group after being and assistant organizer for several years. She is an active racer on the East Coast, usually racing 3-4 days a week during sailing season. She rarely misses an opportunity to join in the events and is happy to help with introductions.

Attending meetups regularly is the best way to meet other sailing enthusiasts and skippers, secure opportunities to go sailing, hone expertise, and make lifelong friends. The group also organizes informal land-based training for crew - sail trim, knots, navigation etc, so even beginners know their way around a boat. Sign up as a member and you'll get emails detailing future events, pertinent postings and news about sailing events that might be of interest to you. Membership is $12 a year.

Please note: This group is geared towards sailboats, not motorboats. This is not a dating service, but there are no rules governing connections made. You can plan on making friends since there is likely no other group of people that will make you feel as warm and welcome as sailors, who share the belief that being "on the water" is a not only a physical goal but a state of mind.
