Sass in the Wild: At Branch & Responsive E-commerce with Shopify

The world is getting hip to Sass! Posts and primers about Sass are more and more ubiquitous. But unless explicitly declared, you'll never know if a site has been built with Sass. That's where NYC Sass comes in. We are here to answer the burning question: "How'd they do that?"

Cemre Güngör, Designer/Founder of much anticipated startup Branch, and Ward Penny, developer at buzzy Chole and Isabel, are taking the stage to talk about how they are leveraging sass.

Cemre is going to talk about how they make our life easier at Branch using SASS: How Branch built their pattern and mixin library, including their grid mixins which helped them make the site responsive faster, how Branch uses icon fonts, some pitfalls to avoid with overusing @extend's, and lots more.

Ward is going to talk about making beautiful (and Responsive) product with Sass + Compass on Shopify.

This month is also super special–it's our 6-month anniversary!! If you've been to our events, you know how we roll. Expect some anniversary extravaganza. We're thrilled to have made it to this point. We wouldn't be here if it weren't for the fabulous support from you, our members and the amazing developers/designers that have stepped up to present. The 17th is for you. Come learn, eat, drink, and rock your sassiness.

    Whoever asked me at the last meetup about the Compass after event hook to rename css -> css.liquid, here is the snippet. Put it in the compass.rb config file for compass:

    on_stylesheet_saved do |filename|
    s = filename + ".liquid"
    puts "copying to: " + s
    FileUtils.cp(filename, s)
    puts "removing: " + filename
    FileUtils.rm(filename)
    end

    Has anyone tried http://yeoman.io/ yet? just released recently. It's a development kit for rapid deployment and package management.

      Yes, I have used it. Do you know how can I initialize a Backbone JS and Jasmine Unit Testing project using Yeoman?

    Why does the map via the meetup mobile app show that's it's on avenue d and 8th? Ridiculous.
