“The Bay Lights Project" - Grand Lighting onboard Willin'

The Bay Lights is an iconic light sculpture designed by internationally renowned artist Leo Villareal. This stunning fine arts experience will live for two years on the San Francisco Bay Bridge West Span, starting with the Grand Lighting on March 5, 2013.

The Bay Lights is the world’s largest light sculpture, 1.8 miles wide and 500 feet high and inspired by the Bay Bridge 75th anniversary. Using 25,000 white individually programmed LED lights, artist Leo Villareal will create complex algorithms and patterns in a dazzling display across the bridge’s west span.

The Bay Lights is a monumental tour de force seven times the scale of the Eiffel Tower’s 100th Anniversary lighting. Shining from dusk to midnight for two years, it will impact over 50 million people in the Bay Area, with billions more seeing it in the media and online.

Willin' is a big, modern, safe, well-equipped, well-maintained yacht with full electronics and instrumentation.  We will not be pushing her to her limits and we will enjoy a safe, comfortable sail.  I will control the RSVP and waiting lists to ensure that we have a good mix of newbies and experienced sailors.

You forty-dollar donation will help to defray costs.  If you have questions about this, or anything else, please give me a call or send me an email to discuss.

There will be a one-hour orientation to get you familiar with the boat and safety procedures prior to our departure.

Please bring a jacket and a sweater for when it cools off in the evening.  Wear non-marking soled shoes and bring a PFD if you have one - I have extras if you do not.

I will have ginger-ale and bottled water on board, please bring snacks to share and whatever beverage you prefer.

Interesting! I know that I have sailed with Mark when it was sunny and warm. However, lately, we seem to find high winds and rain. Always fum with Mark - a safe, courteous, friendly skipper.

We all braved the elements for a very exciting experience - and they had some lights on the bridge too.

Amazing views of the bridge and San Francisco night lights aboard Willin'. Mark kept the boat moving so we could see the bridge and the city from different perspectives. Uplifting music and snacks were a bonus. I felt safe in the boat with Mark at the helm...despite the driving rain and 3-5 foot swells.
