Afternoon Sail on MyWay

Just back from South America and the weather is looking good so how about a laid back afternoon on MyWay?  Since I'm inviting some non-member friends, probably hold attendees to 10 GWAW members.  People who have sailed with MyWay before will have preference.

For anyone curious about the boat, visit this event page:

http://www.meetup.com/gotwaw/events/161757722/

click on the photo album and you'll see some directions to the boat and photos from our last sail.

Enjoy!

Thank John and Don/Karen you for the effort organizing and hosting. It's always time well spent having interesting conversations on the water. Don, may I get gabriel's site please? Aloha

On behalf of Don and Myself, I'd like to say "you are welcome" to all of the members who said "Thank You" in various ways for hosting this event. I'd also like so say "Thank You" to everyone who attended. In spite of the fact that the sea conditions were 'lumpy' as we motored out the gate (making several people sea sick), gliding along under sail and warm temps during the return was about as good as it gets. So a big Thank You to Mother Nature as well!

Everyone on the RSVP list should post a comment here starring what they intend to bring snack wise. - I'm bringing a large vegetable tray with dip.

John, I will be there at 12 n at the gate. I will bring cheese and crackers to go with the wine!

Yes I'm familiar with the rules. The only rule that you really need to know to understand all the others is . . . . you can't hit someone else. So if two boats are on a collision course, all of the rules are designed to define who has to stay 'on course' and who has to 'move out of the way'. So there you are, a 15 second course in the essential Racing Rules of Sailing, known around the world as 'RRS'.

A BIG THANKS to everyone who participated in the conversation. This has been the easiest event to organize by far. I've got contact (and snack food information) from everyone and I've only had to make one or two calls. I'm looking forward to seeing all my existing friends on board and to meeting a few members for the first time.

    YAY!

sounds like this will be a great sail for everyone...John - thanks for the call and update, it's greatly appreciated...I took my name off the waitlist this morning as another invitation came up and I decided to accept...

Cesar, my son is joining us for the sail and taking BART from the city to downtime Berkeley. We will be picking him up at 12 noon on our way to the boat. If you don't get a ride and want to take BART and meet us then, we could pick you up as well.

As to snacks, Yes! Everyone should bring something to share. Don brings the drinks. I'll be calling everyone this afternoon/evening to coordinate who's bringing what (Don likes Cheezits LOL, but we don't want to end up with 10 boxes worth)

    Don,

Are we supposed to arrive at the boat at 11 am or 12:30? From your last post, it seems that 12:15-12:30 would be ideal unless someone will already be onboard getting things ready. Thanks.

    March 7

    • John

Rosann, thank you for your comment. Everyone is expected to arrive by 12:30. I typically arrive a half hour early to get the boat ready, and often other experienced sailors in the group typically do the same. The gate leading to the docks is locked, so we usually communicate by cell phone to make sure that people arriving can be let through the gate. Another aspect is that around 12:30, we'll call people who haven't made it. So it's very important that people answer the question's during the RSVP process. One of those questions is; "What's your cell #" - if you didn't answer that question, you can update your RSVP by clicking on the 'change' button above the RSVP list on the event page. - Thank You

Hi Everyone, So far Saturday weather is looking fine. I've moved the first group from the wait list to attending. I'm asking those people to confirm that you still want to come and if you have not done so, answer the contact info questions on the wait list. If there are cancellations, I'll let the next people on the wait list know. See you all soon!

    Hi John/Don,

Curious when you will be notifying folks as to who you've selected - not to be pushy, but I am guessing most of us would like to be able to make alternative plans for the weekend, if needed...thanks...

    March 5

    • John

To all: Jeff has a very reasonable point . Don will be putting the crew together, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that 6 of the ten spots will be assigned today. There may be a couple of spots assigned to Got Wind and Water members tomorrow who are not presently on the wait list.
