I got really, really busy after putting this up. So busy in fact that I haven't hosted an event for . . . years . . . yikes!
I've fallen into a pattern of just working behind the scenes to help our active assistant organizers host events. Meanwhile, I've been sailing regularly with Don on his Catamaran 'My Way'. Occasionally I help him host events.
So I'm going to let this event drop off the front page of the site and I'm going to replace it with another 'placeholder' event description that will try to describe what's happening with the group.
We've now done the first of this type of event. We loaded a couple of bikes into an Olson 25, docked at the Island, off loaded the bikes and rode along the 'ring roads' of the Island.

This page has no date or time scheduled, it exists to set up a waiting list from which we'll plan the next Sail/Bike/Sail Event. When you add yourself to the waiting list, please answer the questions, and fill out the comment section to add your thoughts to such an event.
On the Inaugural event I chartered an Olson 25 from OCSC Berkeley for the trip. Done this way, the charter cost was $165, and it was shared between three of us. if I were the skipper and we did it on a Weekend.
I built a bike rack that fits the cabin sole of a small boat and accommodate two bicycles in an upright position.
On the Olson 25 it was a snug fit but there was enough room to squeeze past the bikes and work around them in the cabin. The rack made the bikes very stable and they did not move around while sailing.
An Olson 25 is a small sailboat, so on future events where we use this type of boat, the maximum number of bikes we could carry would be two, and the maximum number of crew would be 4. Bikes are available for rent on the island so that is an option.
Please email me if you are an assistant organizer with the group and want to try the rack out on your boat or if you'd like to charter another type of boat and use the rack on that. We figured out that this will not work on a J-24.
