On Sunday afternoon, I am planning something a little different. Let's call it a "Sailing Clinic". We have done this a couple times before as "Racing Clinics" where we covered all the basics of sailboat racing. The intent here is to give an "Introduction to Sailing" starting with the very basics.
We will get together in a classroom format and cover basic keelboat sailing - the physics of sailing, terminology, marlinspike seamanship (knot-tying), safety, wind and weather, navigation, etc. This will be a lot longer version of the one-hour orientation that we usually give before every sail.
After lunch, we will go out for a two or three-hour sail and put our new knowledge into practice.

We will experience many different wind and sea conditions and try all the points of sail. You may participate in the sailing of the boat as much, or as little, as you desire.
Please bring a sweater and a jacket, it is supposed to be nice this weekend, but not all that warm. Bring foul weather gear and a PFD if you have them (I have some extras), and wear non-marking soled shoes.

I have ginger ale and bottled water on board. Please bring your lunch or you can buy lunch at the Java House restaurant and snacks and beverages for the sail.
Willin' is a big, modern, safe, well-equipped, well-maintained yacht with full electronics and instrumentation. We will not be pushing her to her limits and we will enjoy a safe, comfortable sail.
We have had some incredible outings in the past, so please check out some of the previous "Newbie" Meet ups:

Your forty-dollar donation will help defer costs. If you have a question about this or anything else give me a call, or email me, to discuss.
Please sign up and let me know if you think that this type of event would be beneficial for you.
OK, let's go sailing and have some fun.
Just looked through the photo album. Great shots, everyone! I can almost feel the wind and water on my face when I close my eyes! Hope to see all of you again very soon. I can't go out this weekend, but hope to attend the 1/12 event.
Happy 2013!

I can't make it this Sunday, but I'd be very interested in attending if you do another sailing clinic down the road.
