Meetup details changed: GG Bridge Fireworks - to all members of Got Wind and Water

Hello everyone, this is your 'group captain' speaking:

When an event like the 75th celebration of the Golden Gate (with fireworks) comes along, everyone wants to go.

But this is a sailing group, and we can't accommodate everyone.  We are adding new assistant organizers, but demand will always outstrip supply.  So I'm writing this to the entire group to give you some tips about how to get on board.

#1 - update your profile!  A current profile helps the skippers figure out whether you are a good fit (experience is often not that important!)

#2 - answer the questions when you RSVP.  Usually the questions are about how to contact you.  If the skipper can't contact you, you aren't a very good choice for adding to the crew.

#3 - UPDATE YOUR RSVP - many members fail to add a comment to their initial RSVP, but you can fix that.  Go to the event and click on "Change your RSVP".  You'll go through the same process you did before, and can add or change your comment.  If the event organizer added a question, then you'll have a chance to answer it. If you update your RSVP from 'yes' to 'no', the link text will then read "Change your mind"  but it's the same process - you can put yourself back on the list.

#4 - get out there and attend events. Members can't see the attendance history of other members, but skippers can!  Your attendance history is an automatic addition to your profile.

The 75th Golden Gate Bridge Celebration is a fantastic event for the whole bay area.  Many of our members will be out on the water - through the group events, but also through the contacts members have made with other members.  There are a lot of events happening that are not posted.  A lot of us have gotten together based on shared experiences and are going out without opening these sails to the general membership.  That is also part of the success of Got Wind and Water.  A lot of connections have been made through the group.

You have to participate in group events to make the connections to sail.
