Hike Mt. Tam from Beach to Peak

Would like to start a hike from the Pan Toll Ranger Station and head towards the peak of Mt. Tam and then head back to Ranger Station before descending to Stinson Beach and back to the Ranger Station. Total Distance will be about 16 miles. Total Elevation gain will be 2500 feet. There will be restroom and water breaks at the Ranger Station at each mid point. The trail will be the Matt Davis trail up to the Visitor Center, down a trail to be determined later to the ranger station and then from the ranger station to head down Steep Ravine to Stinson Beach before heading back up the Matt Davis Trail. Hike should take about 7 hours, which means we should finish about 5 PM and head into SF for dinner if enough people are interested.

What do you need to bring?

* A hydrating water pack is best. However just make sure you are carrying enough water. I suggest[masked] ounces.

* Trail sneakers or shoes are better, but regular sneakers can still get the job done. * Long pants. The trail gets narrow in some places and its best to prevent cuts and scrapes from fallen branches.

* A light lunch and plenty of snacks. Protein bars, trail mix, etc. You can burn up to 3,000 calories on this hike.

* A lightweight jacket. The winds can pick up in some spots.

*Some cash. Parking is $8.00 per car.

Anyways, if people have questions or want to contact me, you can reach me at[masked]-3747.

Zehua, thanks so much, I saw you mentioned Milpitas Ranch 99 in one of your previous messages. It's also very convenient for me to go there ... How about we just meet at Milpitas Ranch 99? What time is good?

Does anyone have an extra place in their car? I live in SF, next to City College. I can take BART to East Bay. I added my info to the Car Pool doc:

Sorry to cancel out as I would love to hike with the Chinese group. But I have hiked Mt Tam & conflicts with another 15 mile hike from Muir Woods down to the beach - Rocky Point.
