Great Public Spaces is activating Calgary’s public realm and reclaiming lost places. Come share your knowledge, experience or interests, pitch your ideas and work on projects together with others who are passionate about great place-making.
Spawned of the CivicCamp Calgary collective - this self-organizing, volunteer-propelled group is ultimately an opportunity where anyone’s ideas can activate the membership. We want to make great things happen in our public spaces through program, projects, policy or performance.
To do this, GPS has tasked itself with the creation of a Public Space Activation Framework, which will give Calgarians the tools and resources to carry out public space projects. Preliminary aspects of the Framework may include:
- Forum(s) for collaboration (i.e. mailing lists, bulletin boards, etc) - Resource library, including municipal and community contact information - Documentation of past projects carried out in Calgary or analogous cities and communities
A secondary objective is to carry out and document public space projects using the Framework and define a refinement process.
All Calgarians are welcome to join this group. The prerequisite is a desire to make our city a better place to live and work. That's everybody, right?
