Java SE 8

Hey fellow Java-ers!

Java SE version 8 is scheduled to be released this September! The big new feature being Lambda expressions (closures).  Please join us on Tuesday, April 16, to hear Galen Stevens discuss the following topics about the upcoming update to our favorite language.

- Summary of language, library, and JDK updates
- Lambda expressions, Method references, syntax and examples
- Collections, streams, and parallel execution
- How to download and run the JDK 8 early access build
- Links and references for further information

Galen works at Boeing Space & Intelligence Systems on spacecraft mission analysis and operations (office is in El Segundo, CA, but he works from home here in GR). They design and build geostationary communications satellites like DirecTV and is currently working on a NetBeans platform application to be used in their mission control center.  Galen has been programming in Java since 2005. He also frequently programs in Matlab, dabbles in JavaScript and HTML5, and occasionally has to read some Fortran 77 code.

This is looking to be a great talk.  So come out an join us for a thrilling night of Java!

It was really good to see all of you tonight at the GRJUG. Thank you Galen for doing a fantastic job presenting many of the wonderful features coming in Java 8.

As I mentioned during the meeting, if you are interested in learning Android, and you would like to be a part of a project, then consider joining the GRJUG mailing group. There we will have an open discussion about Android Xperience
