Re: [grad-dc] Busiest day yet for our careers blog!

Thanks for the comments - I have some contacts Maria, I'll see what I can sort out for you. Did you read Alex Darby's interview? From what I hear this is a highly competitive area. Any particular reason you want to go down that particular route, rather than a role in social gaming? It is an industry growing at a far quicker rate and with an awful lot of businesses around London.

Cheers,
Barry

Dear James and Barry,

Many thanks for both your emails!

I have just taken a look at your blog and I must say you have done a terrific job!!! Big congrats on that!! I will definitely spread the word on both my FB and Twitter accounts and I'll let anyone and everyone know!!

And following James' email, I was wondering if you may know something about how to get a role as a tester in a gaming firm, preferably firms that develop consoles games. Am I emailing the right people? :)

With kind regards from,

Maria.

Just to pick up on something Barry said below.  Please do drop us a line if there's a particular role or an industry that you'd like to know more about, in terms of how you'd make a break into that industry/role or what life is like once you get there.
We'd also love to hear what you think about the site and its content, either  over email or you can post comments directly on the site itself.
Thanks,
James

Hey guys,

Many of you may not be aware but a few of us run a careers blog at the GDC: http://careers.grad-dc.co.uk/

James Bowkett and myself have organised some questions and interviewed a selection of people from the software industry to help you understand the differences between working in media, working in a bank or working in a gaming company. We have now got a number of career interviews on the site and it is starting to gain some traction. You can see the difference between being a developer, an architect, a tester or a CTO. There is also some great advice on there on things you can do now to improve your chances of getting a job when you graduate.

Some of the latest interviews are:

Adrian Woodhead - Technical Team Lead in Last.FM - http://careers.grad-dc.co.uk/2012/09/07/adrian-woodhead-technical-team-lead/

We are really interested in getting this site and these interviews out to as many people as possible, so please help us by spreading the word on facebook, twitter and anywhere else where you think students may find it useful: http://careers.grad-dc.co.uk/

If there is anyone you'd like us to approach to find out about their career then let James, Nicola or myself know and we'll do what we can to make it happen.

Warm regards,
Barry
