When GSP is not enough - using ZK RIA Framework for Grails

After a summer hiatus, it's time to kick things back into high gear. This is a preview of Spring2GX Talk in Chicago. The ZK Framework ( is a RIA AJAX framework that encourages server side development to create Rich Internet Application. It abstracts AJAX calls for you and allows you to code all of your UI logic in Groovy or Java, without having to spend a lot of time worrying about generated HTML / CSS / JavaScript, and getting all those technologies to work together along with Grails backend. The ZKGrails integrates ZK with Grails, including automatic component binding with GORM.

As a result you can use Grails strengths (GORM, Services) along with the productivity of ZK framework. In this talk, we will talk about where the traditional view technologies in Grails fall short (if you want a rich user experience), and how ZK Grails helps fill the gap (Vaadin, a similar framework, will be briefly discussed). Please make sure to give your full name when RSVPing, we will need it for security.

Good introduction to ZK Grails, overview of UI approaches in Grails and then an excellent, wide ranging discussion covering everything from hosting options to NoSQL data stores.

Valuable and wide ranging discussion about user interface development in the Grails environment. Great participation from the attendees. Meeting would benefit from clear break between presentation, related discussion and open discussion.
