"Old School" Theme Game Night

It's been a year since our last old school night so ladies and gentlemen, it's time to dust off those old games and give them some love!

This Meetup will have a Retro theme so break out those old favorite games of the 90s, 80s, and beyond! Look to the 80s for Dark Tower  (1982) or perhaps Axis and Allies (1981)!  How about reaching way back to the 70s by playing UNO (1971)! The 90s produced one of the most played games on the planet. That game is Settlers of Catan (1995). Guys, if you want to still play the latest greatest game of today, well that's cool too!  So grab those parachute pants, those disco platform shoes, and put in some Pearl Jam and we will rock in Retro Night!

Like all our theme nights it's totally optional! Play what you like!

Woohoo!

Will

    Hey guys!
A new member named David and his wife (who I have not been introduced to) showed up, looked around, and were a little confused about how to get into things. They left having played no games and without meeting anyone. Aww...Sad :(
Let's try to keep an eye on the door for new folks, Ja? None of us want to miss out on new folks coming in. I didn't see him myself, but saw him at another meetup (and he had seen me in a picture here) and got the story.

Oh, and Will...just to let you know:
The Risk game you had to bug out on to go home (which you were sure you had lost anyway)? You won.

We usually try to snag the new people. I wasn't myself that night and got my but kicked by this darn cold. Hopefully they will give us another try. Sometimes it's hard to discern the meetup folks from the card folks or even just customers.

Sorry, I generally try to talk to newbies as well but I often am too focused on what I'm playing.

I know we do a pretty good job of yelling out our Hello's to new faces. Maybe a little GGSP banner posted on the game bag table (if available) or a couple of pamphlets with a picture of Will or some other folks designated as greeters that the newbies can pick out of the crowd just in case we don't notice 'em.
"New to Grand Gamers of St. Pete? Please find this guy [place image here] and introduce yourself. Just look for a bald head hunched over a game called BattleStar Galactica if you don't see his face."
You know, something like that... :P

A sign is a great idea and I will look into that. I'm hoping US Games will continue to sponsor us. They really have been so awesome to this club already. Our main funds come from the raffles. We will be holding 2 soon. Couples Night and our Seven Year Party.

Thanks, Art. and Will. We will try again and come a bit earlier next time so we can be there at the start.

Very fun. Managed to get three games in even though I left early. I apologize guys. I have a nasty cold I think :(

We've got a few classics lying around that we can bring. We're playing in a Pathfinder campaign on Sats. these days so we'll be arriving a little later on (7 or so...). J&V

I have an old card game published in the '90s that never made it (bought advance copy at a sci-fi con). Other than that all I have is a game of Yahtzee and a wooden tile scrabble game published in the '70s.

Yes, I'm just limited to about 2 games to bring. And it will be longer before I can bring Eclipse. Don't want to try it with 1 1/2 hands. :)

Risk was published in 1959! How many game systems out there have borrowed mechanics from this game? Oh, and I'm bringing it!

...this may sound funny....but I have never played Settlers...wouldn't mind giving it a whirl...

That is such an amazing picture. I love all the photos on the wall and how they're all jacked up. Still hoping to play Dark Tower one day. We have the kids that day but might stop by anyway.

Dark Tower was there last year and it will be there this year :)
