As we get closer to the beginning of the days of summer with sunny blue skies, bright sun and green grass, its time to begin planning our outdoor events.
Our first of many outdoor events, shall be a visit to the countryside with a late morning start on wishfully a bright Saturday morning, where we will stop by a local farm, just in time of the year, where the Strawberries are waiting to be picked and Wine to be sipped on a hilltop patio with great views of the surrounding landscape of mountains and a far glimpse of the city skyline.
Our venue for the farm pickings will be the Great Country Farms which is a 200 acre working farm situated at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains outside the village of Bluemont, VA.
The strawberries should be ripe and ready for picking late May and early June.
Besides at the farm store you could purchase a wide range of seasonal fresh produce and products, ranging from local honey, jams, dips, pottery, gift ideas and much more.
After we have completed our strawberry pickings, we shall head over to the Bluemont winery, which is half a mile from the farm and perched on top of the hill, with some of the best views of the countryside and the Blue Ridge mountains.
Bluemont is a small winery, with an average of 5000 crafted cases of wine produced each year. The winery also offers a variety of cheese and charcuterie besides sandwiches for purchase.
So join in for our visit to the countryside and for a day of Picking Strawberries and Sipping Wine.
Please manage your RSVP’s responsibly. Though we will allow for a larger group of members to join us for this event, we still need to plan and manage RSVP's as there is only a limited seating space at the winery and late cancellations and no shows will only deny others from attending.
We will meet at 10:30 am at the Great Country Farms, and tentatively plan to head over to the Winery at around 12:00 pm.
As always we will do our best to coordinate rides from nearby Metros, so if you need a ride please add a comment.
