For our next outdoor event, We are headed to the horse country for a Twilight game of Polo with our favorite summer wine, picnic blanket and some food to share.
On Saturday nights Great Meadow in The Plains, is a choice for many local and city dwellers to spend a summer evening outdoors while catching a game of Polo.
There are two matches each Saturday night. Long before the first match starts at 7 p.m., regulars begin arriving to spread their blankets and picnics on the grassy hill overlooking the arena.
But don't be intimidated if you have never seen a match; Twilight Polo is an easy introduction to the sport. Unlike polo that is played on grass, where the field stretches the equivalent of nine football fields, this version is played in a dirt arena, making it much easier to see the ball and keep up with the action. The announcer also calls the plays and explains penalties.
Feel free to invite friends for this fun event. We recommend carpooling if you can, as the tickets are $30/carload.
We will try to coordinate carpooling, so if you need a ride or can offer a ride from a Metro, please let us know by posting a comment.
So pick a bottle of your favorite summer wine, some food pairing, your picnic blanket and join in for a fun night in the countryside to watch the horses gallop amid the crisp fresh summer breeze.
