Using Ikanow's Infinit.e with Neo4j

Infinit.e is an unstructured data analysis and decision support tool that uses Hadoop, ElasticSearch, MongoDB, and a range of NLP tools and services to ingest data. It can pull out entities, relationships and sentiments from unstructured data.

Putting that data into Neo4j allows for some interesting graph analysis, as well as the ability to do ad-hoc graph queries with Cypher.

Agenda

6:30 - Pizza + Networking, etc.

7:00 - Announcements

7:05 - Craig Vitter: Ikanow Infinit.e Intro + Intro to Developer API

7:30 - Short BreakĀ

7:40 -
Wes Freeman: Quick Cypher Review, Demo: Scala app to import Ikanow data to Neo4j, Example Cypher queries against Infinit.e data

Venue: Thanks to Andrew and CustomInk for providing the meeting space! It can be slightly confusing to make it to their office space (which is a great space, by the way), because the address and adjacent addresses are conjoined and built around a large parking garage: I always park on the first level of the parking garage, which is the first entrance after you turn down Jones Branch from Westpark. From there, you just take the elevator all the way to the top (5th) floor, and we'll have some signs pointing to the meetup once you get into CustomInk. If you happen to turn in too early and park on the 3rd floor, you'll need to walk a bit farther to the elevator on the CustomInk side. See you there!

Hey Max, (and other Pythonistas), I knew I'd seen something about using Python with embedded Neo4j--check this out, using JPype: https://github.com/neo4j/neo4j/t...

Here are my slides. I'll leave my neo4j instances up for a while in case anyone wants to play with them. (links toward the end of the presentation)... http://www.rvl.io/wfreeman/dece...

Love the animations. How did you do the slides?

It's the reveal.js javascript presentation framework. The guy actually hosts the presentations now at rvl.io. You can embed arbitrary HTML--I was thinking I might use that to embed the console stuff, but ended up preferring fullscreen.

Interesting topic. Always good to see how Neo4j can be used

Sorry we made this the same day as the BigData DC meetup--probably a bad choice, considering the audience overlap! I'll try to avoid that for next time, and promise that we'll have better beer than they will. Also, we have some heavy hitters signed up--Geoff wrote a blog post about Max's recent talk at Data Science DC: http://www.elegantcoding.com/20... Looking forward to meet you guys!

LOL, their event is booked solid with 87 on the waiting list so I think our event is a good alternative for folks looking to talk tech and share free food and beer!

Hmm. I probably should have mentioned that in the description. In case people are worried, we'll have beer and pizza from our sponsors, Neo Technology and Ikanow, respectively.

This sounds really cool. Will you record the session?

    December 6

    • Wes Freeman

I don't think we've got any plans to record it. I'll post my presentation, though. I can show it to you later, if you want, Peter. :)

      Yes please, appreciated!
